Job Description:
This position is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance on all aspects of grounds care, buildings, and repair equipment to ensure efficient, safe shop operation.
The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager or Repair Manager depending on the location.Job Responsibilities: Routine inspections are performed daily on all major capital equipment (i.e., heater, boiler, transfer table, etc.) as well as all other shop equipment. These inspections provide the basis for the maintenance program. Routine inspections identify and provide the bulk of the maintenance supervisor's workload.After initial inspection, the Maintenance Manager ensures that required maintenance/repairs are completed. Equipment may need lubrication, and minor repairs may be required. The Maintenance Manager spends about 40% of his/her day directing subordinates to follow up on work performed.Works with outside suppliers/vendors to arrange for major repairs and repairs on equipment under warranty. He/she interfaces with these people, arranging to have the work performed quickly, and in the least disruptive manner to the shop. Emergency repairs must be handled in a like manner, whether the repairs are performed in-house or by an outside contractor. In addition, the maintenance supervisor oversees the installation of all new plant equipment.It is important that required maintenance and repairs are performed. Improper or unperformed repairs could result in downtime and employee injuries. To avoid downtime or employee injuries, maintenance of repairs should be done in a timely fashion.All documentation properly generated by the maintenance program and required repairs to shop, and equipment is processed by the Maintenance Manager.The Maintenance Manager works to epitomize Union Tank Car’s Quality Policy by ensuring employees work meets internal and external customer expectations at all times by fully applying himself/herself and seeing to it that subordinates apply themselves to the task involved, preventing errors, and implementing personal and departmental quality improvement projects. In addition, the maintenance supervisor is required to understand the Responsible Care Management System and actively participate in activities outlined.Ability to climb ladders to heights of approximately 14 ft. high, bend, stoop, stretch, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. to set up tables and to attach to tank cars.Ability to enter tank cars via a manway opening approximately 20 inches in diameter.Ability to tolerate both heights and confined spaces.Possess keen visual and audio acuity to recognize various shop danger warning signals to avoid injuries and promote a safe working environment.Possess considerable stamina to perform the essential functions over a large geographical plant area.Ability and availability to work considerable overtime hours that may often be required.Willingness and ability to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to: safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, ear plugs and respirators.This position requires trade school training with an emphasis in engineering and three to five years experience in maintenance. A strong mechanical and electrical background is necessary as well as knowledge of pressure vessels and various pumps and compressors.
Essential Functions:1. Establishes and maintains a formal preventive maintenance program on plant facilities and equipment.2. Directs subordinates in the inspection of facilities and performance of maintenance measures/repairs to ensure an efficient, safe shop.3. Coordinates warranty repairs, emergency repairs and the installation of new plant equipment.4. Proper documentation related to the maintenance program, as well as outside repairs, warranty work and emergency repairs.5. Actively implements and trains employees in accordance with the company's safety, industrial hygiene and environmental policies and programs, and enforces compliance with published work rules.6. Selects, develops, shows leadership to and empowers team to establish a productive work environment that encourages a team approach for continuous improvement to achieve the company's vision.7.
