Primary Function

The Maintenance Apprenticeship program is an A. O. Smith sponsored 4-year program.  The program is 8,000 hours in length and includes a combination of on-the job learning, mentoring, and in-person classroom training.  

Responsibilities

Apprentices will have to master on-the job competencies and processes such as workplace safety, equipment operation, general maintenance & troubleshooting, programmable controls, industrial electricity, maintenance of machinery, welding, hydraulics/pneumatics, DC/AC circuits, motor controls, print reading, tool & cutter grinding, mechanical drawing, machine tool and mechanical power applications.  

At the same time, Apprentices will attend school (on/offsite) for a minimum of 1 class per semester (3 semesters per year) with Northeastern Technical College (NETC).

They will assist experience technicians with routine/preventive maintenance tasks; learn and apply troubleshooting techniques to identify root cause and resolve equipment/machine issues; follow safety guidelines/procedures at all times.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Have a High School Diploma / GED Must be willing to enroll in college courses, to meet the requirements of the program, and attain a minimum of a “C” in all required courses. Strong understanding of mechanical systems and mechanical background preferred Strong problem-solving skills Excellent communication and customer service skills Must be willing to rotate on all three shifts during the Apprenticeship Program. Must be willing to, upon completion of the program, be assigned to a full-time position on any shifts based on business needs. Must be able to perform all requirements of the position. We Offer
