This position is available at both the Carson and Wilmington plants of the Los Angeles Refinery.

Key Responsibilities:

Repairing, rebuilding, or upgrading mechanical equipment, not limited to pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, and gearboxes per MPC specifications, standards, and drawings. 

Maintain equipment through preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance (vibration analysis, oil analysis, etc.) and condition-based monitoring. 

Troubleshoot mechanical and control problems on refinery equipment to minimize downtime, maximize reliability and ensure compliance.

Read and understand equipment manuals, procedures, and proper tool selection to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

Maintain knowledge of application of precision measuring tools and equipment is required. Tools will include the wide array of the various types of micrometers and calipers, indicators, height gauges, and proficient in the use of laser alignment equipment.

Ensuring required documentation of repairs, modifications, and training are completed in a timely and meticulous manner. 

Apply basic principles and required repair procedures for centrifugal and reciprocating pumps and compressors and various types of gearboxes. 

Knowledge of mechanical drives and systems is required.  Hydraulic and pneumatic systems and equipment repair knowledge is desired. 

Work will not be limited to machinist/millwright duties.  Individual will be required to perform many other duties in the maintenance of an industrial plant.

Education and Experience:

HS Diploma or GED Required.

Apprentice or Journeyman millwright or an associate’s degree/certification in related field preferred.

Minimum of two years of industrial mechanical experience in a refinery or other process plant required.

NCCER Certification is preferred.  

Experience in laser alignment, pump mechanic, steam turbine mechanic, compressor mechanic preferred.

Valid driver’s license required.

Skills:

Experience in running overhead cranes, forklifts, and basic rigging principles is essential. 

Strong math background and ability to read blueprints is required. 

Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use multiple types of hand tools. 

Experience in field balancing of rotating equipment preferred.

Must demonstrate knowledge and skills in safe rigging practices. 

Some nightshift, weekend shift, and overtime required. This work is in a safety sensitive environment that requires you to pass and comply with a continuous random drug and alcohol-testing program.

Ability to physically perform all duties required which may involve (among others): bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying loads up to 50 lbs.

Must be willing to climb ladders, work at heights and in confined spaces.

Ability to work efficiently and safely alone as well as part of a team.

Pay and Benefits:

Starting pay is $48.65 - $52.46 per hour upon qualification with a highly competitive benefits package including retirement and medical. Benefits information can be found on www.mympcbenefits.com.
