The Marathon Salt Lake City Refinery is looking for skilled and motivated individuals to join our team as full-time Machinists/Millwrights. In this critical role, Machinists/Millwrights are responsible for performing highly skilled mechanical maintenance and repairs on various refinery equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, gearboxes, and more. Candidates must possess strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure all work is performed in a safe and environmentally compliant manner, adhering to site Health and Safety processes and Environmental regulations.
Ensure that equipment is safely prepared for Maintenance and all documents are in order prior to starting work.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair refinery machinery, ensuring optimal functionality and minimal downtime.
Perform shop and field repairs on refinery equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, gearboxes, and more.
Expertly apply alignment techniques, including reverse dial and laser alignments, to ensure precise equipment calibration. Execute maintenance tasks in accordance with established written procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company guidelines.
Utilize technical drawings, equipment manuals, and appropriate tools to effectively troubleshoot, repair, and maintain machinery.
Document all work performed, including condition assessments and repair activities, in maintenance reports and logs.
Proficiently use various measuring tools such as micrometers, snap gauges, digital height gauges, scales, and thread micrometers to ensure accurate measurements and repairs.
Operate a variety of machine shop equipment, including lathes, mills, balancers, drill presses, overhead cranes, and forklifts, to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Maintain a positive attitude and strong collaborative mindset, working effectively and efficiently with team members to achieve high-quality results.
Be flexible and willing to work overtime as necessary to meet operational needs and project deadlines.
Able to wear a respirator and work in fresh air when the task requires it.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum (Required) Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of 2+ years Manual Machinist/Millwright experience in an industrial/military/automotive industry.
Must be able to read engineering design drawings, operate machine shop equipment, and repair pumps and compressors in the refinery.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Able to work off-hour duties such as plant shutdowns and routine on-call support.
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of a 4-year machinist/millwright program and/or a journeyman card from an industrial apprenticeship program is desired.
5+ years Manual Machinist/Millwright experience in an industrial/military/automotive is desired
Experience running manual lathe and mill desired.
Physical Requirements
All Maintenance Craft positions work in various environmental conditions in the refinery. This may include but is not limited to working indoors, such as in maintenance shops, outdoors in open areas, process units, at heights and in confined spaces with or without respiratory protection and limited mobility. Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and carry 50-pounds.
Safety
Machinists/Millwrights work in a safety-sensitive environment and must successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol and medical screenings, and a background check.
Schedule
Machinists/Millwrights work a four-ten schedule and must be available for overtime as required.
Pay and Benefits
Starting rate is between $35.77 and $51.74 per hour depending on experience with highly competitive benefits including Medical, Dental and Vision benefit options, Paid Parental Leave, Company Match on 401(k) Contributions, Cash Balance Pension Retirement Plan and much more!
