Job Description – Machine Operator III

 

Job Title: Machine Operator III (GA) 

Department: Production 

Report to Job Title: Production Supervisor 

 

Fair Labor Standards Act Status (FLSA): Exempt Non-Exempt Hourly

 

Summary of the Position:

The machine operator III operates and maintains multiple complex machines or multiple machine lines with minimum supervision. Troubleshoots/resolves problems and monitors production line to ensure efficiency/quality is maintained. Coordinates the work of employees assigned to the line(s) this person has responsibility for. Tracks performance data, communicates exceptions and works with teammates and supervision to recommend and execute solutions.

 

Functions of the Position:

% of Time Essential (E) or Marginal (M) Functions Performed

50% E Sets up machine loads, dies, and films and monitors to make sure it is running efficiently. Performs diagnostics and resolves equipment issues as needed.

10% E Follows work order, quality control and sanitation procedures concerning weights, packs, descriptions, dates, UPC’S, cleanup and changeovers.

10% E Performs quality control and material waste checks. Collects downtime data and other performance data as required. Analyzes to recommend or implement improvements.

5% E Performs pre-operational checks, including quality of materials. Communicates and assists in managing exceptions.

5% E Maintains and exceeds production, quality and safety standards.

5% E Loads product into hopper and monitors scales and/or other support equipment.

5% E Leads machinery change over (clean, size change, etc.) effectively, timely and with proper level of cleaning.

5% E Directs/instructs machine line personnel in specific job duties. Provides training to machine operator I and II.

5% E Maintains a clean, organized and safe work area.

Continually:

· Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following current good manufacturing practices, allergen/sanitation controls, food defense/food fraud, HACCP/FSMA, SQF, and regulatory requirements.

· Aware and accountable for maintaining and documenting preventative controls necessary to ensure food safety and quality.

· Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to management.

· Responsible for partnering with others, sharing knowledge, skills and information within assigned team and across functional areas.

· Responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.

· Responsible to comply with all safety policies and procedures established for health and workplace safety.

· Responsible to support safety culture by practicing safe work behaviors, reporting potential hazards, and conducting safety observations.

· Other duties assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education, Experience, and Knowledge:

· This position requires specific in-depth knowledge of complex equipment (e.g., Volpak) and/or broad, extensive knowledge of a variety of equipment (e.g., an entire production line).

· Experience as a machine operator.

 

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

· Level I Power equipment license (JBSS)

 

Skills and Competencies:

· Basic problem recognition and resolution on the line being operated.

· Capable of following directions.

· Good communication and interpersonal skills are necessary

· Ability to train/coach

· Ability to speak and read English

· Basic computer literacy (to understand QAD and scanners).

· Basic math

· Mechanical, electrical and analytical abilities

· Good manual dexterity, vision and mobility

 

Job Specific Requirements:

This position is subject to mandatory overtime based on business needs.

 

In the event that the machine operator III is absent, the department manager is responsible for providing an equally qualified person to cover this position.
