Advance Local, The Patriot News, needs a well-rounded team member with a mechanical aptitude to work full-time in our climate controlled production facility. We produce publications from throughout the PA region along with the Syracuse (NY) Post-Standard. Packaging duties involve operating cart loading machines, bundle and wrapping equipment, and inserting advertising materials into inserting equipment. Must be able to work flexible work schedule, including weekends and holidays. Nightly packaging runs mean this position will involve scheduling based on production needs. Start time is 4 pm. Shift ends when all production runs are complete. Candidate should have the ability to work well under tight deadline and in a team environment. Candidate needs to demonstrate willingness to learn new assignments and ability to follow safety protocol. Ability to operate pallet jacks, forklift certification not required but a plus. Physical requirements: Must be able to stand on concrete surface for most of shift, capable of bending, reaching, stretching, and lifting bundles of newspapers weighing up to 40 lbs. Must be able to move wheeled carts of bundles without assistance. Must also possess good hand to eye coordination and the ability to work around heavy equipment. While personal protection is provided, must also be able to work in environment where noise and exposure to dust, solvents, oil and ink are present.
