MA / Customer Service Rep | Otolaryngology Surg -Clinical | Day
Overview JOB DUTIES Travels to UFJPI and UFHealth on and off campus clinic locations to provide coverage for Medical Assistant vacancies. Provides excellent customer service and greets patients entering the department/practice. A multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects ofmedical practice including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. Essential Functions • Receives and directs messages, (electronic, in person and telephone calls) to the appropriate personnel. Makes contacts to other departments,physicians, patients and other outside organizations as necessary for the departmental/practice operations. • Maintains patient scheduling functions, and sets patient appointments through established guidelines. • Interviews and completes the registration process for patients utilizing the specific service. • Keys patient dispositions, diagnostic codes, patient orders, charges and payments as defined in the electronic medical record. • Performs cashiering functions as it relates to co-payments or other patient payments/collections. May perform routine clerical duties for thedepartment. • Perform basic laboratory procedures including aseptic procedures and taking patient’s vital signs. • Perform venipuncture and administer routine, non-controlled medications. • Administer medication as directed by and under the direct supervision of licensed physician. • Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by the provider. • Provides excellent customer service for patients/families/representatives and other members of the treatment team. Temperament Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclicalworkload pressures and levels of responsibility. Required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations,evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from onetask to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receivinginstructions. Qualifications SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE Organization/Prioritization • Ability to organize and prioritize assignments to work independently as well as a collaborative team member. Computers/Technology • Basic computer literacy and arithmetic skills. Training/Support • Knowledge of ambulatory health care or related health care field. Customer Service • Ability to provide dynamic customer service using various techniques including positive language, calming presence, attentiveness, clear communication, and patience. Organization/Prioritization • Possesses critical thinking, prioritization, and organizational skills. Attention to Detail • Attention to detail and quality of work. Communication • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously, both orally and in writing. Experience Requirements 1 year medical assistant preferred 2 years Two to four years clerical customer service experience - ideally in a health care related industry preferred 1 year One year experience with third party payors and computer experience for in putting data and reviewing patient demographic material preferred Education Requirements Degree/Diploma Obtained Program of Study Required/Preferred High School Diploma or GED equivalent required Additional Details: This position requires 100% travel to various UFJPI clinical locations. Current Florida Drivers License and proof of auto insurance required at time of hire Certification/Licensure Requirements Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required or at time of hire Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire Medical Terminology Certificate preferred within 30 days Driver's License - Florida required at time of hire UFJPI is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Drug Free Workplace
