General Services Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for the repair and maintenance of over 250 city government facilities including: City Hall, Public Safety Building (Jail), Norfolk Consolidated Courts Complex, entertainment venues such as the Scope Arena, Chrysler Hall, Attucks Theater, the Virginia Zoo; a cruise terminal, all police and fire stations, recreation centers; pools and numerous city office buildings. The Division is staffed with 96 employees responsible for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, elevators, roofing, moves and relocations of city employees, finance, and administrative functions. The City of Norfolk, Department of General Services, is seeking a qualified Lock and Key Mechanic for the Facility Maintenance Division. The Lock and Key Mechanic will install, repair, or replace interior/exterior doors, hardware, and locksets within various locations throughout the City. Essential Functions Essential functions include, but are not limited to: + Cuts keys as requested + Maintains log of employee key assignment throughout the City + Rekeys locks/repins cores + Installs, maintains, repairs, and/or replaces: + Interior and Exterior Doors + Door Hardware to include door closures, panic bars, hinges, door closure coordinators, kickplates, door stops, flip down door holders, etc + Locking mechanisms to include locksets, deadbolts, mortise locks, magnetic locks, electronic strike and release mechanisms, simplex locks, etc. Works primarily with Best System but may also work with Yale, Schlage, Corbin- Russwin, and other commercial systems. + Inspects doors for ADA compliance. + Obtains estimates for materials and/or services and submits for purchase order by following procurement procedure. + Provides support for special events by maintaining, transporting to site, and setting up bleachers, temporary fencing, and barricades. Removes and returns to storage location after events. + Uses work order management application (Facility Dude) to update assigned work orders with notes, labor hours, and materials used. + Schedules, coordinates, and oversees work while serving as liaison between supervisors and contractors. + Follows strict tool and inventory control procedures. + Operates tractor with various attachments. Other functions of the Lock and Key Mechanic that may be performed include, but are not limited to: + Installs, repairs, or replaces various interior/exterior building components associated with entryways to include doors, door frames and trim, siding, handrails, etc. + All other functions and duties of a Maintenance Mechanic II as needed. Education/Experience Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational and technical processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Required: + Two years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic. Preferred: + Experience working with commercial locksets. Additional Information & Requirements + Valid Driver's License required. A DMV transcript obtained within the previous 30 days will be required if selected for hire Work Schedule: + Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm (Occasional overtime) + This position is designated as Essential and may be required to report to work during City closures due to inclement weather and other emergencies.
