Job Summary:

Under general supervision, this position assists litigation counsel in completing routine legal issues, researching applicable law sources, drafting legal documents for internal and external legal offices, completing information requests, and other administrative tasks. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining claim management system databases, litigation deadlines, and records of expenses.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the discovery process through reviewing and drafting initial documents and answers to be sent to outside counsel and collecting relevant factual information from internal databases.Respond to routine correspondence from internal and external parties following established procedures not requiring management review.Maintain Claim Management System databases through recording new lawsuits and assigning appropriate coding and system flags.Conduct initial claims investigations and collect law sources for litigation counsel such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and legal codes for preparation of executive summaries and legal documents.Maintain active litigation calendars for trials, mediation, settlement conferences, and other legal deadlines.Notify litigation administration about concerns on litigation files.Assist in processing expense invoices and filing for claim expense reimbursement from excess and surplus lines insurance carriers.Maintain records of unbilled expenses, accounts receivable transaction entries, and payments received.Perform additional duties as needed

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in related field; 1-2 years of related experience and/or training OR equivalent combination of education, experience, or military equivalent AND/OR Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences:Ability to process information with high levels of accuracyAbility to interpret information to form decisionsAbility to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediumsKnowledge of approaches and techniques for recognizing and resolving problems


Preferred Qualifications:

Paralegal Degree or Juris DoctorateExperience drafting and reviewing legal documentsExperience working in a corporate legal environment/departmentExperience working in a fast-paced environmentKnowledge of transportation and logisticsKnowledge of legal terminologyProficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)Knowledge of discovery procedures and litigation documentation

Compensation:

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.  This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
