JOB SUMMARY: Ensure the production of quality prints by inspecting for print defects, cup leaks, and a variety of other errors. Prepare print changes and monitor the quality of in line prints. Monitor all print specs. Inform supervisor if out of date. Hold “suspect product” as necessary for retesting. In addition, perform and complete other work as assigned by shift manager or Group Leader. All employees must follow all Graphic Packaging safety procedures and policies.

 

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:

Must successfully complete Level 1 and Level 2 assessments including print changes, inspector and testing technician duties, modified Cup Packer, Boxer and Bagger training and performing quality inspections in slitting, folding cartons, lids, printing and blanking. Compare spec sheet, laser and schedule, and verify they are aligned with currently running product. Check cups for defects and print quality: Tear down eight cups every hour for every print run. Check for damaged seals (halt production if damaged.)  Tear down and invert bottoms for Secondary seal (SDR Cups.) Pencil test bottom stock and product sidewall. Every inspection round, sift through one sleeve of product and visually scan for defects. Check print quality for streaks, ink inside cups, and smeared, missing, or too much ink. Hold production if defects are discovered. If print is put on hold, record machine number and case number; turn info into Quality Tech. Using machinery and coffee urns/juice/soda with a lower pressure, test for leakers and problems with hot and cold cups that have been put on hold also during production. Case checks: Visually check case label number to make sure the correct box is being used, correct cups are in box, and stack height is accurate. Pull one sleeve of product and check for defects and date code. If everything is o.k., continue to run. If not, notify Packer, Boxer and/or Operator about issue and determine if product should be held.  Check rim width and cup diameters: Place eight non-defective/diverted products on laser machine for computer to calculate width once per machine, per shift. If rim is out of spec, complete Rim Defect Notice and provide to Operator. Sort cups: Sort diverted cups from auto-baggers. Inspect for defects. Put good cups back through auto-bagger. Receive hold calls: Line inspectors and leak testers call and cite which cups are defective. Complete hold tag and send to clamp truck operator on robot. Know and understand the hold tag procedure. Complete requirements of Quality Assurance Testing Technician: Audit the leaker table area and complete pre-job survey at start of shift. According to machine priority testing list, collect 16 cups/bowls and relevant data. Conduct testing in priority order and utilize Quality Testing Matrix for each product type. Communicate defective product to Operator and Inspector and enter hold in log. Clean coffee pots, dump and clean scrap barrels, and compete 5s sheet. Perform micrometer testing, coat weight testing, moisture testing, and laser mike. Understand the mispack process. Label Room: Setup label printers, print labels, print/put away spec sheets and print/put away lasers, perform housekeeping as needed in this area and other duties as assigned for this area. Prepare print change schedule/check labels: Record print changes scheduled to occur during current shift and confirm with machine room schedule. Confirm product stated as having been printed, has been. Ensure rolls are ready to be run in accordance with schedule. Ensure packers have proper labels in accordance with schedule. Look for labels if necessary. Make sure spec sheet for currently running print is up on baggers. Check print changes for pre-prints: When notified by packers of print change, take spec sheet of print and match blank to print. Confirm spec sheet info: carton count, label color, label print sizes, and machine code. Visually inspect one sleeve of cups for defects. Tear down eight cups and check their seals. Call operators to shut down machine if necessary. Give start up approval after problem has been fixed. Label first run prints as such. Pull samples as directed by quality tech. Complete the Quality portion of the print changeover process: Complete the required sections of the Print Changeover Checklist including verifying all previous running product, labels and spec sheets have been removed from the area and returned to appropriate location. Verify that Operator, Boxer and Packer completed print changeover checklist (if not, shut machine down.) Return completed checklist to the Quality Lab. Complete and understand required paperwork: Required paperwork includes but is not limited to QAT worksheet, Out of Production Form, 5s sheets, No Go Notice, Product Non-Conformance Investigation Report (aka: Mispack Report), Pre-Job Survey, Paper Hold Tag, Laser Log, Rim Defect Notice, Print Changeover Checklist. Understand how to read the production schedule and layout, the blank cart tag and spec sheets. Receive line inspector’s form from previous shift stating what is in production at time of shift change. Record in red the print changes with the name of the print and its number as they occur. Prepare line inspector form for next shift.  Computer work: Update the data dashboard (retrieve case numbers) and complete the back-up holds if the normal hold tag log system is not functioning. Complete the hold tag log entry form; utilize the Gold V2 (for printing off lasers), the Total Vu program, the lableview and QAD as required. Test for leaks Other responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Work requires continuous standing and walking, as well as the ability to safely lift up to approx. 35 lbs. Attention to detail is essential as are effective communication skills and ability to multi-task.

 

WORK DEVICES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Computer, cups, boxes, computer, printer, telephone/intercom system, scrap containers, spec sheets, and low-pressure leak testers

TRAINING PROVIDED: On-the-job training provided by a designated trainer.  

SUPERVISOR REQUIREMENTS: Supervision received from Group Leader and Shift Manager.

TIME OF OPERATION: 12 hour shifts, working alternately (36) and (48) hour weeks with four (15) minute breaks and one (25) minute lunch.

 

ALL EMPLOYEES MUST:

Follow all Plant rules, Processes, Hygiene, and Allergens procedures, related to production of Safe Quality Foods. Report to person of authority to record any potentially unsafe conditions which may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF related procedures. Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required. Follow all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF). Report any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation.
