Light Duty Technician
Description

Light Duty Technician  Job Purpose: This position will perform routine and some non-routine maintenance and repair work on vehicles (buses, vans etc.) which adheres to Transdev standards. This may include but is not limited to tire maintenance, fulfilling service calls for repair, conducting visual inspections of vehicles and related work as assigned. Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles more advanced issues and problems and may refer more complex issues to higher-level staff. All work is performed with a commitment to safety. May mentor or provide informal guidance to Technician I. Responsibilities: Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs with moderate supervision on basic and advanced maintenance such as replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, check fluid levels, change fluids and filters and lubricate components.Perform mechanical repairs under moderate supervision including the repair of brakes and brake inspections, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches and other repairs.Maintain records of all maintenance work completed on vehicles including parts and supplies used. Ensure that work orders are completed properly and accurately. Maintain parts usage records and order repair parts from designated suppliersAssist Tech III with preventative maintenance (PM’s), safety maintenance inspections and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals of time and usageRemove and replace engine, transmission and differential assemblies with Maintenance Technician III supervision.Diagnoses and performs accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under moderate supervision.Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action takenEvaluates completed work prior to release and seeks approval where requiredAssist with road calls and emergency services as necessaryAdhere to FirstGroup standards, policies and proceduresMoves vehicles safely between job and work areaRepair and maintain all shop equipmentCleans vehicles as requested or requiredOther responsibility as requested or requiredEducation: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred)Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire)State inspection license (if required)ASE Certification preferred. Must participate in ASE testing program within 1 year (expected to have 3 ASE within 12 months of hire)Experience: Intermediate mechanical aptitude and 3 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experienceAdhere to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standardsValid driver’s licenseIntermediate problem-solving abilityIntermediate computer skillsComfortable using hand toolsStrong customer service skills and communication skillsAbility to work independently as well as part of a teamMaintain an organized shop and clean work environmentRegular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the jobMaking sure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customersPossess adequate mechanic tool inventory to complete all assigned duties and maintained in a clean and safe mannerPhysical Requirements & Working Conditions: Maintenance Shop environment with dust, dirt and grease conditionsAbility to work under all weather conditionsAbility to lift a minimum of 50 poundsAbility to work in a crouched position or on back, lying on mechanic’s creeper, beneath motor vehicle equipmentDisclaimer: Nothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
