Job Title Lifeguard / Swim Instructor Fall 2024 Department Recreational Sports Office Job Description/Duties Job OverviewThe job of the Lifeguard is to supervise, oversee, and monitor adherence to all polices by all patrons of the Student Life Center Pool and Park Center Pools.
The job of the Swim Instructor is to provide instruction to children and adults of all ages, following accredited guidelines.

Directly reports to:Assistant Director of Recreational Sports for Facilities and AquaticsGraduate Assistant of Recreational Sports for Facilities, Aquatics and MarketingSupervisor of Lifeguards
Job duties:

Lifeguard: Monitor patrons, ensure safety, and enforce rules in the Student Life Center Pool and Park Center pool Test pool chemistry using provided testing equipment Complete daily tasks such as checking for pool/deck safety Be ready and able to perform life-saving techniques to patrons in distress Morning, afternoon, night and weekend hours required Attend required in-service provided at least once per semester required by Cortland County Health Department Attend mandatory meetings, as needed


Swim Instructor: Provide swim instruction to children and adults of all ages Develop lessons following American Red Cross or equal accreditation standards Evaluate participant performance and progress Ensure policies and rules of facility are being followed Communicate in an effective and professional manner with clients and/or parents/guardians
Qualifications:Must hold certification in Cortland County Approved Lifeguard, CPR/AED/First Aid licensure

Weekend availability is required.
Swim instruction must occur during Student Life Center pool hours. Campus Location/Bldg. Lifeguard: Student Life Center Pool and Park Center Pool
Swim Instructor: Student Life Center Pool Required Qualifications Must be a current SUNY Cortland student Valid Lifeguard, CPR, AED, First Aid with CPR completed within the last year Must hold certification in Cortland County Approved Lifeguard Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands Special Conditions for Eligibility Contact Name(s) & Email(s) We will review applications as needed.
