Department/Division/Section: Operations – LSS Operator

 

Job Summary/Essential Functions: The LSS Operator is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all life support systems and animal habitat support systems. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations.

 

Overview

 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

Following all safety procedures including wearing protective eyewear and using lock out/tag out guidelines encouraging coworkers to do the sameHolding the health and well-being of our exhibits as a top priorityMaintaining all life support equipment in good repair, ensuring it is all fully functionalMaintaining all back of the house areas to the same cleanliness standard as the front of the houseReporting to work on time and in proper uniformBackwashing filters, maintaining and repairing LSS equipment, proper LSS record keepingImmediately correcting anything that is broken or in need of attention in the public areas. If you cannot fix it, inform Director of Operations immediatelyCompleting projects accurately, thoroughly, completely and in a timely manner. All repairs are to be done the right way, not shortcuts and avoid quick but improper fixesMaintaining work areas in a neat and orderly fashion and putting all tools away in their proper place at the end of each shiftCommunicating with and supporting Director of Operations and husbandry staff as neededCompleting LSS rounds as neededFollowing proper procedures for starting up and shutting down the building as needed

Physical Requirements:

Working indoors and outdoorsLifting objects up to 80 poundsMay involve work on stepladders or lifts, reaching overhead, bending, and stoopingMay be asked to work on potentially hazardous equipment. (it is your responsibility to exercise extreme caution in these circumstances and not to do anything you do not feel comfortable doing)Ability to perform the essential functions of the job either with or without reasonable accommodation.
