The Public Safety department is searching for a Lieutenant to lead our team at our Newark Main Campus at ChristianaCare!
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To protect Christiana Care property and maintain an environment conducive to good health care. To protect patients, employees, and visitors by preserving peace and order. To supervise subordinates in the performance of their duties.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises and directs assigned staff including interviewing and hiring new staff, evaluating work performance, coaching and discipline.Conducts or directs investigations of all security related incidents and assure appropriate follow-up and documentation.Patrols ChristianaCare premises to observe subordinates in action, enhances interdepartmental contact and identifies security & safety deficiencies and make recommendations to correct them.Coordinates department activities and responsibilities with other departments.Works with the department leadership to coordinate activities with local authorities and outside agencies.Assures compliance with regulatory requirements (Joint Commission, applicable licensing, and OSHA etc.).Assists in the development and maintenance of appropriate training and education.Engages with developing and implementing Department Directives. Establishes goals with a plan of action for accomplishment including clearly stated desired results.Ensures public and caretaker matters are conducted in a fair, even handed manner consistent with ChristianaCare policies.Develops and implements Action Plans related to Employee Engagement for Public Safety staff.Provides the department leadership with relevant information related to security and crime trends at the facility and develops action plans to address concerns.Works with the department leadership to develop the budgets to include personnel, equipment, supplies and services. Communicates information through attending management groups, conducting staff meetings, and assuring frequentcontact among all levels of the organization.Responds to significant incidents to evaluate staff performance and/or to provide assistance.Takes a positive approach to all aspects of managing to create and maintain a safe, productive and quality oriented work environment.Encourages adherence to departmental standards and directives to include safety, quality control, and work rules.Coordinates all activities regarding staffing, to include work schedules, payroll, and monitoring overtime.Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules practices. Reports through the Chain of Command in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.Performs other management and administrative tasks related to the department and other related duties as directed.SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
Daily contact with patients, visitors, physicians and ancillary department caretakers and managers. Frequent contact with outside Law Enforcement agencies and Department of Corrections reference prisoners.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school or equivalent required.
Five years Law Enforcement experience. (Required)
Three years of supervisory experience in a law enforcement agency or healthcare public safety environment. (Required)
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field. (Preferred)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of latest Law Enforcement Techniques.
Knowledge of Criminal Justice System and Codes.
Ability to maintain confidential information and material.
Ability to delegate work and responsibilities to subordinates and evaluate their performance.
Ability to maintain and establish positive interdepartmental and intradepartmental communications and constructive working relationships.
Ability to plan, organize and implement procedures.
Ability to assess and evaluate problems and recommend effective solutions.
Ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
Ability to establish and maintain excellent public relations.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to remain calm in stressful and potentially volatile situations.
Ability to deal with various personalities.

Constable Commission
Meet the minimum requirements as established by the Constable Board to carry a weapon while on duty
