Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Salary Range: $25.15 - $34.69 Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity. Position Summary: + Under the direction of the Physician or Nurse Manager, responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients in accordance with the standards defined by the Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians, the American Nurses Association ( ANA ) and Lompoc Valley Medical Center. District Responsibility: + Support of the District Mission and Values + Demonstrate Respect, Professionalism and Courtesy to all patients, visitors, other providers and coworkers, as delineated in the LVMC “Commitment to Care”. + Constantly use C-I-CARE principles when communicating with others. + Performance Improvement Activities + Professional Development Position Duties/Responsibility: + Assess patient’s general condition and takes vital signs. + Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriation information. + Documents all activities/interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, etc., in the medical record. + Administers prescribed medications. + Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care. + Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness. + May prepare equipment and aid physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients. + May be asked to act as a department resource and coordinate nursing care for patients. + Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions. + Maintains strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA. + Must thoroughly understand and follow established policy and procedure with regard to basic patient care. + Participates in department quality improvement, clinic safety, infection control and hazardous materials programs and activities. + May start and maintain intravenous fluid therapy or perform venous blood withdrawal. (Note: for IV therapy administration and blood withdrawal must have completed the thirty (30) hour Basic IV program approved by the State of California). + Exercises discretion and maintains high level of confidentiality. + Performs related work as required. Essential Functions: + Knowledge of clinical policies and procedures. + Knowledge of clinical practices and medical terminology. + Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. + Ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, other members of the healthcare team, etc. + Ability to adapt to varied, age-specific and/or specialized groups. + Ability to understand use, function, interpret, document, and keep records. + Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. + Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. + Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. + Ability to organize and prioritize work. + Ability to follow oral and written instructions. + Ability to reason and make sound judgments. + Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. + Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, management, patients, medical staff, and the public. + Skill in accepting constructive criticism and giving suggestions in a professional manner. Position Qualifications: + Education: Must have a valid license in the State of California as a Licensed Vocational Nurse with IV Therapy certification. + Experience: Pediatric nursing experience preferred. + Cert/License: A valid California nursing license. Current BLS certification by American Heart Association at time of hire. AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support and AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support a plus. For IV therapy administration and blood withdrawal must have completed the thirty (30) hour Basic IV program approved by the State of California. + LVMC reserves the right to modify the minimum requirements depending on the needs of the organization. + A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years LVN experience in a clinic setting is strongly preferred.
