**Position Title:** Library Technical Assistant **Job Description:** HINDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE Job Description JOB TITLE: Library Technical Assistant REPORTS TO: Campus Administrative Librarian DEPARTMENT: Library/Learning Resources EXEMPT: No VICE PRESIDENT: Vice President of Instruction/Academic & Transfer GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION This position provides customer service and technical support for the library and its patrons. All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Two years of college education and particular skills acquired through experience, inservice training, or formal post-high school instruction in appropriate areas, and, most desirable, through a combination of these. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assists at public service desk(s) and other library areas; helps maintain an effective public service desk at which patrons receive courteous, prompt, and efficient service; assists in maintaining a safe, appropriate library atmosphere by supervising student/patron conduct, engaging in general housekeeping, and promoting a favorable college environment. 2. Assists in providing general circulation and reference duties including providing orientations and bibliographic instruction in the use of the catalog, databases, internet, and other areas via in-person, email, Chat or other means. 3. Maintains statistical reports required for weekly and annual reports; maintains accurate records of finances. 4. Performs duties associated with interlibrary loans and transits. 5. Trains and supervises student assistants as assigned. Updated June 2021 6. Assists librarian in performing all duties related to serials management, archives, and/or stacks maintenance. 7. Assists in coordinating the displays and events for the library’s public service and outreach programs and in disseminating PR for each. 8. Serves as library’s building coordinator/contact for maintenance; ensures that maintenance requests are filed timely and are monitored for progress. 9. Assists in maintaining equipment, computers and other technology in the library. 10. Helps maintain the library’s social media efforts by assisting with Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat or other platforms. 11. Ensures professional growth by attending PDI courses, workshops, conferences and serves on committees as requested. 12. Works evenings and early mornings as needed to make the library available for faculty and student use. 13. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the appropriate authority, including assisting other campus libraries. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities except for overseeing the work of student assistants assigned to the library. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities in the outdoors and off site.
