Examples of Duties The Tigard Public Library seeks a knowledgeable, emotionally intelligent person with a social work background to be our first library social services coordinator. In this unique position, the social services coordinator will use trauma-informed and strengths-based practices to build relationships with library patrons and community partners, connect library users with community resources, and assist in de-escalating and resolving conflicts. • Build relationships with Library patrons • Connect patrons with existing community resources • Participate on the Library’s Person in Charge team, addressing building and patron issues • Respond to and assist with challenging situations • Plan or provide related professional development trainings for Library team • Support patrons to act in accordance with library and city policies Skills and Abilities: + Knowledge of and experience with strengths-based principles and practices + Knowledge of and experience with trauma-informed care principles and practices + Skill & training in de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques + Skill in building and maintaining strong working relationships with community groups + Ability to collect and maintain robust, current information on community resources + Knowledge of and commitment to equity & inclusion work Minimum Qualifications Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities, to perform the essential functions of the position, may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: + Equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in social work, business or public administration, public relations or public affairs, marketing communication, event coordination or a related field, AND + A minimum of two (2) years' experience in social work, community outreach programs, program planning, development, and/or event coordination and administration in public or private organizations. Preferred Education/Experience + Equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field + 2 years experience in social work, community outreach, or related field + Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in one of these Tigard community languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Ukrainian, Russian, Arabic, or Somali Supplemental Information Union Representation: not applicable for this job Schedule: This position is 40 hours per week (1 FTE) on a Tuesday-Saturday schedule and requires one weekly evening (11:45am-8:15pm) shift. Schedule may be adjusted periodically for trainings or outreach events. Note: This position is a 2 year limited duration. Compensation: The hourly range for this overtime eligible position is $31.88-$41.69 per hour. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidate’s related experience and education in accordance with the City’s pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $37.52 per hour.
