JOB SUMMARY
The Osceola Library System is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated full-time Library Associate 3 - Youth Services Specialist for the Poinciana Library.
This is a perfect position for someone with an education or library background looking for new and innovative ways to encourage literacy, critical thinking, tech skills, and imagination in our youngest patrons. The successful candidate will possess a knowledge of children’s literature, a love of reading and learning to share with children and their families; an interest in STEAM concepts with good tech skills, and a commitment to enhancing literacy of all kinds. Excellent customer service and teamwork skills are a must!
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
Deliver programming to include regular story times, after-school programs for elementary and middle school students, events and classes for teens, and outreach programs and tours to schools and community organizations using material created or developed in conjunction with the Youth Services team. Join schools, organizations, and partner agencies to promote library events to the public, helping to create life-long library patrons and forging robust community partnershipsContribute to the Youth team by supporting system-wide events, attending meetings, and offering supportSupport a successful Summer Learning ProgramDocument statistics and prepare reports about youth programming at the assigned branchRecommend reading and learning materials to children, parents, and caregiversAssist with daily library operations and support all Library goals and initiativesInform library patrons of rules of conduct as necessary, and enforce those rules when appropriateKnow and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies)Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron recordsOther duties as assignedJOB REQUIREMENTS
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education,
training and/or work experience required.
H.S. Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Education, Museum Studies, or similar disciplines preferred; will accept a combination of education and experience2 years of direct experience working with children of various ages and familiesPublic library experience a plusStrong presentation skills, with the ability to engage both in-person and virtually, in the library and the community.Creative problem-solver and confident professional with a strong commitment to customer service.Excellent technology skills, including experience with web-based platforms, digital resources, and STEAM education tools.Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) preferred, but not required.Strong decision-making skills and the ability to think strategically and collaboratively.Physical Requirements:
Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasionally up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.Ability to sit for long periods and maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.Benefits:
