General Statement This is a posting to gather a pool of qualified applications for possible positions in the MSU Library. We seek librarians and other professionals on an as-needed basis for work in a variety of areas, including:

Reference and instruction Instructional Technology and/or Instructional Design Scholarly communication Collection development Digital initiatives Archives and Special Collections cataloging and metadata Special projects

Duties and Responsibilities Vary depending on assignment. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills A Master’s degree from an ALA accredited graduate program or terminal graduate degree in a field appropriate to the position.


Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Previous relevant experience in an academic environment. Previous experience working in an instruction or public services role in a college or university.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information The working hours for this position will be set, but will also require an individual with flexibility in their schedules to meet occasional vacation and sick leave demands of the department.

Non-Tenure Track Faculty – Any position that is .5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Faculty covered by AFMSU may choose to pay membership dues. This is a condition of employment. Additional information can be found at AFMSU or by emailing AFSMU. Any position less than .5 FTE is not represented by the Union and is not required to pay dues. If the FTE changes during employment, the representational status of this position could be impacted. Exceptions: Anyone having successfully completed a PEI exam or any faculty working in Extension are exempt from the Union.

Physical Demands To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations. The primary work environment is a climate controlled office setting, with the main work area in a busy and often noisy public service area. Duties will expose employees to some dust and particulates as part of work related to library collections (books, etc.) Ability to raise and transport materials and items up to 25 pounds.
