Role description:
Arcadis seeks to add an experienced, high performing legal counsel to its growing Canadian in-house legal team to support the Infrastructure division, comprising of Mobility, Resilience and Places. The ideal candidate will have significant legal experience in the engineering, construction, and infrastructure sectors, covering engineering, consulting, and program/construction management. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, superior oral and written communication, and the ability to anticipate and deliver legal support for a dynamic, diverse, and global business team. The position is flexible, located in any Canadian Arcadis office.
Role accountabilities:
Provide comprehensive legal counsel during pursuit, negotiation, and delivery stages of complex, high risk and high value projects using various collaborative delivery models across public and private markets. Offer expertise in claims avoidance and disputes management; advising Senior Management and the Project Team on legal and contractual risks, and providing hands-on legal support for potential claims and disputes. Act as a trusted legal advisor to the Legal Director, Infrastructure and as a Business Partner to the Business Area and Operations Directors, as well as other senior leaders. Serve as a key contact to facilitate legal guidance on compliance with Arcadis’ internal policies, processes, procedures and governance frameworks. Monitor legal and contracting trends in the engineering, construction and infrastructure industry, including relevant case law and deliver training to legal and commercial teams. Develop proactive protocols to identify and manage routine project risks within the Infrastructure Division, and advising management of same. Coordinate and manage external counsel, including budget forecasting and oversight of external legal expenditures. Support the development and implementation of policies and processes to improve efficiency and risk management strategies. Perform other duties requiring general legal advice as needed by the business.Qualifications & Experience:
J.D. or LL.B., with a minimum of ten years’ post-qualification experience as either in-house counsel or with a well-recognized law firm. Licensed to practice in a common-law jurisdiction, preferably a member of the bar in Ontario or another Canadian province. Extensive experience negotiating and drafting complex multi-party agreements in the engineering, construction and infrastructure sectors. Strong aptitude for identifying and managing risks associated with high-value engineering, construction and infrastructure projects. Expertise in dispute avoidance, management and resolution of complex construction disputes and claims. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to interact effectively across organizations, including with clients, contractors, and subcontractors. Solid knowledge of Canadian federal, provincial, and local public contracting laws.

The salary range for this position is CAD 225,000 - CAD 265,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role. #LI_VS1
