Family Service Association is looking for a committed Legal Assistant to join our Guardianship team! We are offering a full time 35-hour work week, Monday - Friday, with a partial hybrid remote day time schedule.
The Guardianship Program at Family Service Association is a unique program offering Guardianship and Conservatorship services to elders (60 or older) and adults with developmental or acquired disabilities. The Program manages the legal, clinical, and financial needs of its clients with care and compassion and offers a variety of specialized services to those needing assistance in their day-to-day lives. An ideal candidate is organized, empathetic, and interested in working with elders and disabled adults in need.
The Guardianship Legal Assistant’s duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+ Drafting correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents pertaining to active and pending adult Guardianship and Conservatorship matters, including annual Rogers Reviews and Rudow allowances.
+ Coordinating Service of Probate Citations on clients and interested parties.
+ Overseeing an Outlook calendar with upcoming court hearings, meetings, pre-trial conferences and court-related deadlines and reminders.
+ Assisting with sale and management of client-owned real estate and personal property, including motor vehicles. This may include scheduling maintenance, appraisal, cleanout, etc.
+ Maintaining both physical legal files and a legal section in an electronic health record.
+ Obtaining Bonds, medical documentation, and other outside records in preparation for hearings.
+ Filing timely and complete pleadings in-hand, via mail, or through TylerHost e-filing system.
+ Clerical duties, such as opening legal files for new clients, preparing legal file for internal case record review, answering telephone calls and emails, scheduling meetings or hearings, ordering office supplies, etc.
+ The Legal Assistant is primarily office-based, but occasional travel to courts for in-hand filing or to client properties to meet contractors may be required.
Education and Experience:
+ Must have a High School Diploma.
+ Three (3) years’ office experience is required.
+ Experience working in probate, real estate, or elder law is desirable, but not required.
