Job TitleLECTURER.2.01LocationOrganization NameFamily MedicineDepartment DescriptionLecturer (AC08)The University of the Witwatersrand Wits School of Clinical Medicine (SOCM) in the Faculty of Health Sciences invites applications from suitably qualified health professionals for a lecturer-level academic post (AC08 Lecturer level) in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care (DFMPC).
The Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care offers postgraduate programmes in a range of health sciences-related fields. Established Master of Medicine (MMed) registrar programmes and Master of Science by research are now complemented with growing numbers of postgraduate offerings/students in health systems science (HSS) and rural health, as well as complementary fields of study (e.g. medical & health humanities) at honours and masters level.
This post is purposed for the development and/or coordination of new and growing postgraduate programmes in these disciplines in the DFMPC, as well as for teaching on these programmes as a member of a broader faculty team. Key performance indicators include categories for self-developmentand growth. The successful applicant will be based at Wits Faculty of Health Sciences, as a combined appointment in the Divisions of Rural Health and Family Medicine in the DFMPC, reporting to the Head of Department.

The primary responsibilities of the successful applicant will be:
Coordination of relevant courses in the Health Systems Science (HSS) Honours and other HSS postgraduate programmes (currently by research)Coordination of the Masters in Public Health (MPH) (Rural Health) and other rural health-related postgraduate programmes (currently by research)Development, delivery and assessment of the teaching and supervision on these programmes, shared with faculty across Schools and DepartmentsDevelopment and updating of curricula in postgraduate (new) programmes in these disciplines for the Department, including Masters by coursework in HSS, rural health and complementary fields (medical & health humanities)Growth and development of the blended learning strategy for these relevant postgraduate courses, in liaison with Centre for Health Sciences Education, e-Learning Services Unit and Centre for Learning and Teaching DevelopmentCoordination of select local and international students participating in rural health electives on the extended training platformMonitoring of student performance to identify those at risk of failure & refer at risk students to Faculty/University resources for student support as neededEngaging in additional teaching and coordination duties as agreed with the Head of Division and/or Head of DepartmentDesigning appropriate research projects related to curriculum development / teaching interventions & innovation in the relevant PG programmesLiaison with the DFMPC post-graduate coordinators of the MMed and MSc (Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine) programmes, of the Clinical Associates PG programmes, as well as with the DFMPC research manager, to ensure alignment of academic quality in metrics relevant to all post-graduate programmes in the Department.Detailed DescriptionJob RequirementsAdditional DetailsHow To ApplyTo apply:
