Lecturer (AC08) Head of Assessment (UUME)

The Unit for Undergraduate Medical Education (UUME) in the School of Clinical Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences invites applications from suitably qualified individuals, who have a true passion for medical education and in particular, assessment (exams), for appointment to a full-time Academic Student Exam Coordinator post.
Main purpose of the job
The main purpose of this position is to coordinate, oversee and support the assessment (exams) processes in UUME at Wits Medical School, particularly for GEMP 1-4. Additional duties are specified in the Key performance areas section below.

Key performance areas
Coordinate, lead and oversee the assessment (exam) cycles in UUME in close collaboration with relevant UUME and Faculty academic staff as well as support staff from UUME s assessment office. The cycle includes production and administration of assessments, including theory and clinical (OSCE) exams, through various Learning Management Systems.
Conduct data analysis and reporting of all exam related activities for presentation to students and staff during Curriculum / School of Clinical Medicine (SOCM) Meetings
Provide assessment workshops for students and staff including MCQ training sessions to align strategies across all academic departments in the GEMP 1-4 years.
Line manage colleagues in the UUME assessment office and act as a backup for those colleagues in this team.
Monitor student performance over time for record keeping and referral for student support if necessary. To take part in Scholarly analysis/Research in order to strengthen the MBBCh degree and referral process.
Assist unit Heads within UUME and the School of Clinical Medicine with planning of practical assessments. Integrate practical assessment result data with theory data in the overall results production process.
Undertake blueprinting of assessments to evaluate the alignment of assessments and teaching
Represent the UUME assessment office on the UUME management team.
Minimum requirements to apply for this position:
A Medical, Bachelor of Clinical Medical Practice, Pharmacy or Professional Nursing degree
A South African citizen
At least 1 year of experience in health science education assessment (e.g. written exams, portfolios of learning, objective structured clinical exams, work-place based assessments)
Abilities, qualifications or experience that would be an advantage in your application
Related postgraduate qualifications in statistics/ education/ health professions education, preferably in the field of educational assessment.
Experience in statistical and assessment data analysis, assessment quality assurance processes
Evidence of a passion for and knowledge of assessment science and processes
Managerial/ leadership experience
Desirable personal abilities of the successful applicant
Team player with a heart for collaborative approach to delivering goals.
Passionate and enthusiastic individual with a strong task focus
Good administrative skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Positive work attitude and keen to engage with students
Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of the UUME team
Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
Good interpersonal skills, tactful, respectful, non-judgmental and punctual
