It is closely linked with highly productive rural and urban longitudinal research initiatives and enjoys strong ties with African and international centres of excellence. Our staff members are prolific in their production of scholarly research in a wide range of areas in demography.

Brief DescriptionQualifications and experience:
Senior Lecturer: PhD, teaching and supervision experience at both MA and PhD level, a solid record of scholarly research and peer-reviewed publications in credible Journals, both as a first and secondary author. Publications must reflect the key aspects of either substantive or technical aspects of Demography or Population Studies.
Lecturer: PhD, teaching and MA supervision, evidence of the initiation of scholar research publication in both books and peer-reviewed publications.
We seek candidates who are well grounded in substantive and technical foundations of the field of Demography and Population Studies including computational social science; data science, advanced demographic methods and publication record; relevant teaching and field research experience desirable. Although we are willing to consider all candidates that meet the criteria for Senior Lecturer or Lecturer, preference will be given to those specialising in Demography and Population Studies with demonstrated knowledge in advanced demographic methods, computational social science or digital demography.
Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision, and to contributing to national and international discourse about demography and development issues facing South Africa and the continent. A typical teaching load is three courses per year . We also expect staff to publish a piece of scholarly research per year.
Remuneration: In accordance with qualifications and experience in relation to the university s pay scale.
Appointment Level: We retain the right to make an appointment at either the level of Senior Lecturer or Lecturer depending on the chosen candidates meeting the criteria set out by the University of the Witwatersrand for the respective post.
