The Department of Technology, Design, and Technical Education in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Utah State University (USU) offers a non-tenure track faculty position as a Lecturer, or Professional Practice Assistant Professor, in Information Technology and Cybersecurity. As part of USU's land grant mission to make academic programs accessible throughout the state, this position will be physically located at the USU Eastern Campus in Price, Utah.


This position begins in the Spring Semester (January) of 2025 (or until filled). This is a full-time academic-year appointment (nine-month academic year with possible summer teaching) located at the USU Eastern Campus. This position involves 90% teaching and advising duties and 10% service and professional engagement. This is a new position and programmatic initiative. Continued appointments will be based upon successful program initiation and ongoing student support. The review of applications will begin on December 1, 2025, and continue until the position is filled.

 

The Technology, Design, and Technical Education Department offers undergraduate programs (certificate-level, AAS, AS, and BS degrees) that focus on developing students’ knowledge and capabilities through hands-on experiences in the classroom. Majors in the department include the various Associate of Applied Science programs to align with technical certificates, as well as the bachelor’s degree programs in Engineering Technology, Outdoor Product Design and Development, and Technology Systems, including an emphasis in Information and Computer Technology. These degrees provide a stackable pathway that can begin in the secondary school system, to the Utah Technical Colleges, to associate level work with Utah State University, and to the BS in Technology Systems. This pathway provides students with marketable skills and experiences that prepare them for successful careers with multiple completion points along their academic path.  The successful candidate will teach courses in support of all of these programs but will be significantly involved in the Information Technology and Cybersecurity content area.

Responsibilities Teach and participate in developing undergraduate curriculum in Information and Computer Technology. Instruction will involve both face-to-face and electronic delivery within the USU campus system.Course responsibilities may include Security and Digital Forensics, IT Management, Cloud Computing, Disaster Recovery and Business Resumption, Network Administration, and other related courses. Some evening teaching will be required.The position also requires active involvement in academic and professional organizations, university service participation, and local community engagement.A commitment to partnering with local industry partners and the Uintah Basin Applied Technology College to develop programs that meet workforce development needs within the region will be necessary. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Lecturer: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Information and Computer Technology, database management, Information/Cyber security assurance, or a closely related field. This will be a nine-month, non-tenure track teaching and service position. 

 

Professional Practice Assistant Professor: This position requires a Ph.D. in a relevant field and a minimum of 3 years of experience.  The nine-month, non-tenure track faculty position will be primarily teaching with some service and possible research responsibilities. 

  

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent relevant applied work experience in one or more of the abovementioned fields.Teaching experience in undergraduate courses in the fields listed above.Evidence of scholarly writing ability.Demonstrated experience designing websites and producing various types of digital media.Demonstrated experience with web development, Python, and other programming languages.Demonstrated proficiency in Linux and Windows-based operating systems.Demonstrated experience with computer networking and design, Cisco background helpful.Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum for online, broadcast, and face-to-face instruction.Experience helping students learn through lab, lecture, and “hands-on” projects or portfolios.Teaching-focused candidates who understand and are committed to meeting the needs of local communities and fulfilling the mission of a Land Grant University.Commitment to supportive relationships with students and peers.Willingness and ability to accommodate various student learning styles.Committed to professional growth and development activities to remain current in the discipline and to recognize future trends.
