The School of Economics and Finance (SEF) is one of six schools in the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management at the University of the Witwatersrand. The school offers an active research environment and unrivalled access to industry and international bodies, as a result of being in the country s industrial heartland. SEF invites applications for the above position in order to fill vacancies in the Finance Division of SEF. The position is instituted as part of the FirstRand Foundation endowment initiative in the field of financial data sciences. The appointed candidate will be expected to work closely with the FirstRand Chair Professor at SEF to specialize in the area of financial data analytics.
The successful applicant will be expected to actively participate in the following:
Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Investments and/or Corporate Finance
Conducting research
Supervision of postgraduate students
Administration and academic citizenship activities
Completion of PhD if not already holding the degree
Specialize in financial data science under the mentorship program
Minimum qualifications:
Applicants for the above position should meet the following qualification requirements:
Master s degree in the field of Finance
Evidence of successful teaching
Data analytical skills will be additional advantage
A PhD Qualification in Finance will be an added advantage
Supervision of postgraduate students is desirable.
The Business Finance curriculum taught by the Finance Division of SEF rests on two core pillars, namely Investments and Corporate Finance. Applicants in the field of specialization in Investments and/or Corporate Finance should apply. Applicants with teaching and/or research experience in Fintech will have an added advantage. Aside from teaching and research, the successful candidate will be required to contribute through administration and academic citizenship as part of workload responsibilities.
