Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the chair. Essential Job Functions 1. Performs an equivalent of thirty teaching load credits (TLC) for the combined fall and spring semesters; reduction of teaching load through reassignment of duties is possible under certain circumstances.
2. May conduct supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships, and advising. Non-Essential Job Functions 1. Provides services to the university and the profession and engages in research/scholarly/creative activities.
2. May supervise the work of student and/or graduate assistants.
3. May serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

2. Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.
3. Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.

Required Experience and Training Practical experience sufficient to teach at a university level, through teaching or profession, is required. This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy. Other Specifications The Department of English and Creative Writing at Stephen F. Austin State University, a member of The University of Texas System, is accepting applications for two lecturers in first-year writing. The successful candidates will have substantial experience in teaching, assessing, and supporting first-year writing students, including those with developmental reading and writing needs. The primary responsibilities of this position are teaching first-year writing courses and coaching freshmen in our newly-designed developmental reading and writing lab. Depending on their expertise, lecturers sometimes also teach lower division courses in the English BA program. This position is not tenure-track; the contract is renewable annually dependent upon annual evaluation. The standard teaching load is 5-5 with a 4-4 load the first year and possible reassignment in the future for service responsibilities.
Candidates must have at minimum a M.A. in English or a related field with at least 18 graduate hours in English by the time of employment. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of student-centered methods or evidence-based practices for undergraduate writing instruction. Expertise or experience in teaching 10th-12th grade writing, developmental reading or writing, or co-requisite models is a plus. Experience teaching film studies is also highly desirable. The ideal candidates will demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development, particularly in the innovative use of technology to enhance the teaching of reading and writing.
