LECTURER IN BIOSTATISTICS (Permanent)
The Wits School of Public Health (Wits SPH) is one of the largest Schools of Public Health in South Africa, with an international reputation for its teaching programmes, conducting high quality and relevant research, community outreach and policy engagement activities. The school also provides research support to Faculty of Health Sciences staff and post-graduate students.
The school wishes to recruit a Lecturer in Biostatistics to contribute towards teaching on postgraduate programmes and short courses, student supervision and research within the school, the faculty and its affiliates. The successful candidate will also provide statistical consultations at faculty level.
Brief DescriptionQualifications
At least a Master s degree in biostatistics, statistics or quantitative epidemiology.
Requirements
Evidence of teaching experience at postgraduate level
At least one article in peer-reviewed journals.
Student supervision at postgraduate level will be an added advantage.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team.
Interest in and commitment to building research capacity.
Responsibilities
Teach biostatistics on the postgraduate (MSc, MPH, MMed, PhD) and short-course programmes within the Wits SPH
Teach on the Faculty of Health Sciences statistics short courses as part of the research support to Faculty staff and post-graduate students.
Provide statistical consultations to academic staff within the faculty.
Co-ordinate biostatistics modules within the MSc programme
Contribute to research supervision of postgraduate students within Wits SPH
Actively develop and expand research programmes within the School and Faculty
Actively participate in the academic endeavours of the school
Remuneration
The remuneration package offered will depend on qualifications and experience and is subject to the University of the Witwatersrand criteria.
