The Division of Medical Virology in the School of Pathology, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand has a vacancy for a hard-working, passionate candidate to join the academic team as a Lecturer in Virology. This position will require teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting research, and supervising postgraduate students.
Brief DescriptionKey responsibilities:
Lecturing Virology to undergraduates and postgraduate students.
Setting, reviewing, invigilating, marking, and moderating tests and examinations.
Course evaluation, monitoring, and evaluation.
Supervision and mentoring of postgraduate students.
Conducting research in Virology.
Securing external funding to support research activities and contribute to the Division s research activities.
Relevant administrative duties and management of the Research and Development Laboratory in the Division of Medical Virology.
Participate in various academic activities, seminars, journal club and training programmes.
Participation in relevant Committees of the School and Faculty.
Requirements:
Master s degree in Virology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or Molecular Medicine or any other related field of study. A doctoral degree will be an advantage.
Teaching/ tutoring experience in higher education. Experience in post-graduate supervision would be an advantage
Experience performing molecular and serology techniques pertaining to Virological research and diagnostics.
Experience in phylogenetic analysis of pathogens (or Bioinformatics) and Biostatistics.
Evidence of publication in peer-reviewed, accredited journal.
Presentation at conferences or other research forums.
Experience in the use of Artificial Intelligence in medical education and research would be an advantage
HPCSA registration or experience in good laboratory practice or laboratory management would be an advantage.
