Description

The senior software engineer works with various stakeholders in both technical and non-technical areas and serves as a mentor and SME for the solutions in which they are assigned.  In this role, the senior software engineer can expect to design, develop, implement, and maintain .NET applications using Java/REST API/REACT/jquery/ javascript/mySQL/postgres.  Additionally, the senior software engineer will provide guidance to Guardian’s production support teams.  The senior software engineer can expect to contribute greatly in the transition from existing legacy solutions to Guardian’s new group platform.  This includes integrating existing distributed solutions with our new platform via API and MQ while slowly replacing the legacy integration. 

You will join a team that is part of a SAFe Agile Release Train.  In this position, you will be expected to guide the team technically, work with developers located in India, and work with our vendor’s developers and leads around the world.

You Will:

Receive training and knowledge transfer from Java developers, the current team lead, and SMEs to accelerate your transition into the senior software engineer role.Perform the technical leadership role for one of our key group insurance applications.  Team will comprise developers based in India.Work with our API and MQ teams to integrate our distributed solutions with our new group insurance platform.Take the lead in troubleshooting distributed application related issues such as UI performance, SQL tuning, and error analysis.Engage in Proof of Concept, prototyping, and feasibility analysis to determine the best approach to requirements and problems.Work with the key stakeholders of the Agile Release Train to determine support schedules and work hand offs.Attend all SAFe ceremonies and actively participate.Create and maintain postgres and mySQL stored procedures.Analyze existing programs and stored procedures for refactoring opportunities.Guide and train new team members as they come onboard.Recommend improvements by studying current practices and proposing/designing modifications.Collaborate and communicate with all levels of management.Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.

Qualifications

You Have:

10+ years of experience and excellent programming skills using Java, Rest API, REACT, jquery, javascript, postgres/mySQL.Exposure and experience with postgre and mySQL stored procedures and utilities.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related discipline.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Experience with Agile Software Development Life Cycle using Kanban, Scrum, or the Scaled Agile Framework.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Development experience in a cross-platform and multi-tier environment.Critical thinking skills, ability to define problems, establish facts and draw conclusions.A strong drive and willingness to grow beyond your current position and responsibilities.

Nice to Have:

Experience with COBOL, DB2, VSAM, JCL, & IBM utilities.Experience with DB2 and COBOL stored procedures and utilities.Experience in Mainframe CICS Web Services and IBM MQ programming.Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting mainframe applications.Scrum master experience.Knowledge of group insurance.

Salary Range$114,080.00 - $187,415.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
