Catholic Community Services, Homeless Adult Services (HAS) is the largest provider of adult homeless services in Tacoma, Washington. Nativity House (NH), a program of HAS, is the central hub to serve homeless adults in the Pierce County region.   It operates 24-hour/7-day a week, offering services (emergency shelter, meals, systematic outreach, Rapid Rehousing, Mental Health and Co-Occurring Disorder treatment, Employment Services, Spiritual Support, 50 units of permanent supportive housing, etc.) to meet the basic needs of individuals experiencing chronic homelessness guests with meeting their goals.

 

The Lead Shelter Program Generalist oversee the operation of the Nativity House Shelter in the absence of the program supervisor. Provides direction to program specialists and Volunteers to ensure the comfort and safety of guests and employees. Staff in this position provide supervision, program structure, behavior management and a wide range of basic needs services, as well as more advanced social services. This includes helping guests navigate a myriad of social service agencies, forms and interviews. Staffs are trained in behavior management, basic case services, as well as Motivational Interviewing and other counseling skills.

Responsibilities Fills in for the program supervisor when she or he is not working. May also attend case staffings and administrative meetings throughout the month. May also fill in for program supervisor or other staff as needed during the week. Participates in interviews and decision making for hiring shelter staff as needed.Supervises all shelter staff and guests in the absence of the supervisor.As the team leader, works with staff to welcome guests , and ensures HMIS data entry and logs are completed. In collaboration with the program supervisor and volunteer coordinator, supervises volunteers providing meals or working at the shelter. Ensures security procedures are communicated and implemented.As part of the HAS team, intervenes in arguments, fights and other disruptive behavior. Provides behavioral management. Facilitates the ban decision making process in the absence of the program supervisor. Ensures that all reports including Bans and Incident reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner. In collaboration with the program supervisor, oversees the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) data entry and corrections. Works with the program director, manager, supervisor, and county HMIS administrator to ensure accurate HMIS data entry. Completes HMIS training, attends HMIS administrator meetings if needed and other HMIS related meetings and training as required. In collaboration with the program supervisor, oversees the collection of surveys and data entry for the reporting process on the women’s and men’s side. In collaboration with the program supervisor, provides one on one counseling, supportive services and connection with services. Works closely with the Case managers and peer navigators to provide coordinated services to guests. Provides counseling consultation regarding guests for program generalistParticipates in division wide case staffings twice a month in supervisor absence. Attend Lead meetings and NH/HAS staff meetingsIn collaboration with the program supervisor ensure that appropriate safety and sanitation procedures are being followed regularly by staff and guests for cleanliness and safety.Fills in for any position as needed. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

 Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or G.E.D.Must have 2yrs experience in Case Management, Social Work, working with homeless, or disabled adults.Education will substitute for experience.Proof of negative TB test within the past 12 months.Ability to be compassionate, nonjudgmental, and set clear personal boundariesAbility to set clear limits and consequences and manage triangulation with guests and staff.Ability to take strong initiative and ownership of the position, be proactive in problem solving, and be an effective team communicator.Ability to form and maintain a strong team commitment with staffWork with diverse population including people with active mental health and chemical dependency issues.Be a positive and proactive team member.Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy, (required to provide current driving abstract)Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.Support and contribute to a creative, collaborative and respectful environment that promotes teamwork.

 

Preferred Requirements:

BA in Social Science preferred.
