Lead Histology Assistant Full-Time Day

The Lead Histology Assistant performs all clerical and computer tasks necessary to support the quality operations of the department. Communicates to maintain team knowledge and train/mentor other healthcare personnel in the gross room. Obtains and processes pathology specimens while maintaining positive specimen identification and assisting with the maintenance of Laboratory equipment to ensure the quality preparation of all specimens. Processes, prepares, and stains cytology specimens to ensure quality results and accurate diagnosis by the Cytologist/Pathologist. 

Job Responsibilities 

 

Oversees and assists team members in assigned functional area, which may include but not limited to, ensuring team is meeting key-deliverables and quality standards, addressing and resolving challenges, managing and tracking performance, and assisting in time management and scheduling; escalates issues to senior leaders as needed. Performs routine and advanced procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Obtains and processes pathology specimens while maintaining positive specimen identification. Performs instrument maintenance/troubleshooting procedures and resolves or assists personnel in solving complex problems related to instrumentation and/or Laboratory procedures. Assists management in overseeing and directing work of technical personnel engaged in performing various routine and complex Laboratory functions in the gross room. Assists management in overseeing and directing work of Laboratory personnel, establishes work priorities and conducts daily surveillance/analysis of results for accuracy. Ensures accurate order entry of surgical and cytology cases in Laboratory Information Systems and clarifies confusing/incomplete orders. Performs required quality control and calibration procedures while verifying the accuracy of patient information and specimen acceptability. Assists in inventory management of reagents and supplies including documenting, receiving and storing supplies and promptly notifying management of low par level inventory; Ensures the department is clean and restocked with necessary reagents and supplies. May perform additional duties as assigned.

Shift - Day

Hours - Monday through Friday 6:00AM to 2:30 with one weekend per month.

3 years Histology Experience

Performing all clerical and computer tasks necessary to support the quality operations of the Histology/Pathology department is required. Your ability to process, prepare and stain cytology specimens to ensure quality results and accurate diagnosis by the Cytologist/Pathologist is expected.
