The Lead Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design, engineering, and construction of high-voltage substations and associated facilities. This role demands strong technical expertise in substation design, combined with proficient project management skills. The Lead Engineer will be the primary technical interface between engineering teams, field operations, and the client, ensuring successful project delivery from conception through to completion.
What will you do?
Lead and manage all technical activities throughout the project lifecycle, from concept design to construction, testing, and commissioning.Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including design engineers, site teams, and project managers, to ensure smooth and timely project execution.Review and approve engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, technical reports, and design packages.Conduct technical evaluations of substation equipment and materials.Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.Support proposal efforts by promoting innovative, cost-effective, value-added solutions to enhance system design concepts.Provide expertise and support to the project and proposal teams in validating subcontractor bids and negotiating contracts for substation projects.Lead the development of substation design packages, including single-line diagrams, layout drawings, raceway systems, grounding systems, station service, and bills of materials (BOM).Ensure all designs comply with safety regulations (CDM) and industry standards.Generate equipment specifications, monitor vendor technical compliance, and oversee factory acceptance testing.Identify potential risks during construction and installation phases and implement mitigation strategies.Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry codes throughout the project.Collaborate with clients, contractors, and vendors to resolve technical challenges and achieve project objectives.Conduct site visits and inspections at various project stages to ensure quality and technical compliance.Contribute to project schedules and work to achieve key project milestones.Analyse subcontractor bids for discrepancies and ensure consistency with project requirements.Coordinate with the quality assurance team to ensure adherence to all quality standards.Take ownership of all project technical queries (TQs), ensuring they are properly documented and resolved using the best technical solutions.Manage project snags, defects, and engineering change instructions (ECIs) according to quality procedures, ensuring the application of optimal technical solutions.Oversee detailed design, testing, or commissioning activities as necessary to meet project demands.Lead the development and review of method statements, ensuring safe and appropriate work practices are implemented.Resolve complex technical issues and provide on-site technical support during the construction phase.Skills and Experience Required:
Proficiency in detailed substation layouts, single-line diagrams (SLD), schemes, protection systems, SCADA, specifications, and design practices in line with client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.Extensive years of experience in high-voltage substation projects.Experience in both secondary and primary substation design.Basic knowledge of civil and structural design principles.HV substations Commissioning experience.Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.Strong understanding of secondary engineering principles.Willingness to learn and understand related disciplines, such as civil and primary engineering.Fluent in both written and spoken English.About Linxon
