Your role and responsibilitiesWe are looking for a Lead Engineer to join our team at ABB Oy Marine and Ports Division in Vuosaari, Helsinki. In this position, you will play a key role in overseeing the delivery of ABB Marine & Ports automation and control solutions for bridge and vessel projects from the sales phase to project completion. You will be responsible for integrating these systems with onboard technologies and leading Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) with clients. This role serves as the interface between software engineers, project managers, R&D, and customers — strong communication skills are essential for success.This is an exciting opportunity to work with ABB’s cutting-edge software and hardware in the marine industry. If you are eager to contribute to a global leader in technology and innovation, apply now!You will be mainly accountable for:•Owning engineering and customer delivery projects, ensuring high-quality execution and seamless handovers from sales•Identifying and resolving project challenges, collaborating with internal teams and reporting progress to stakeholders•Ensuring compliance with industry standards, manage system designs, and maintain key project documentation•Overseeing testing activities (FAT, HAT, SAT) and provide support during testing and custom-er interactions•Supporting commissioning teams, address technical inquiries, and prepare software configurations•Communicating technical details effectively with customers, cross-functional teams, and ensure proper document control•Collaborating with hardware engineers, R&D, and assist in procurement processes, aligning with project timelines
Qualifications for the roleB.Sc. or higher in a suitable field, e.g. automation or software development, along with a strong background in automation, control, or electrical engineeringExperience with PLC programming and HMI development along with the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical specificationsKnowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming standards and familiarity with key communication protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus, and CANProficiency in preparing design documents and understanding of procurement processes in SAPStrong communication skills, along with fluent English language skills are necessary for effective teamwork and customer interactionsAbility to lead and support FAT activities during testing phasesExperience collaborating with hardware engineers, R&D teams, and project stakeholdersProactive problem-solving approach and ability to drive projects forward
