Lead EP Technologist - St. Mary's Hospital

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position -

The Lead Electrophysiology Technologist assists with cardiac electrophysiology studies and ablation procedures by calibrating equipment, setting up procedures, prepping patients, operating, and recording monitoring devices, and collection of diagnostic data during procedures. This role maintains and an electronically and radiologically safe environment in the laboratory and provides education and training to staff on all Electrophysiology (EP) policies and procedures

Essential Job Functions

·        ​Assists management in planning, organizing, and directing the daily operations of the EP Lab including participating in unit performance improvement and quality management measures.

·        Demonstrates and maintains effective communication skills with management and the interdisciplinary health care team. Communicates with coordinator to accommodate multiple and sometimes conflicting requests for schedule time, equipment, and supplies to facilitate the efficient throughput of patients in the EP lab.

·        Assures compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards for EP lab.

·        Requires educating and training staff on EP procedures and departmental policies regarding all procedures completed in EP.

·        Prepares patients for procedures using proper positioning and surgical prep of procedural site(s).  Extracts and documents all pertinent pre-procedural information obtained from patient and medical record.  

·        Maintains sterile technique while assisting physician during cardiac adult and pediatric EP and vascular procedures. Requires the ability to prepare instruments equipment and medications before and during cardiac, EP, or vascular assists physician in cardiac, vascular, EP, or pediatric procedures.

·        Continuous monitoring of patient’s condition through interpretation of EKG and hemodynamic waveforms. Operates digital medical and fluoroscopic equipment during procedures.

·        Finalizes procedural reports and transfers all images and hemodynamic information to the server.

·        Loads automatic injector with contrast media and injects via catheter at a rate of volume selected by physician.

·        Uses provided computer applications to ensure accurate charge capture on procedural and supply charges.

Licensing/Certification

Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credentialed through Cardiovascular Credentialing International and/or Radiology Technician (RT) through American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with special procedures experience and/or cardiac catheterization experience (required)

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (required)

Basic dysrhythmia course- Required Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) (required)

Education

Vocational or Technical Degree in a related field (required)

Associates Degree in a related field (preferred)

Work Experience

3 years of experience in the Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL) or Electrophysiology (EP) lab. (required)

Training

MAC LAB (preferred)

EPIC (preferred)

Cardo (preferred)

ESI (preferred)
