Lead Data Engineer

THE ROLE YOU WILL PLAY

We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join us on a permanent basis.  We need talented individuals to apply their data engineering and software development skills for solving data challenges to support a major UK Government programme from locations throughout the UK.

You will work closely with delivery managers, fellow technical specialists, external partners and our customer’s teams to support the discovery, design, delivery and operation of a wide range of data solutions. This position is a full time, permanent role and applicants must have (or be able to acquire) SC clearance.  Ad-hoc travel may be required to various customer and Leidos sites

Your responsibilities will include:

Lead and co-ordinate teams, setting best practice and standardsDesign and implementation of numerous complex data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systemsBuild, Maintain and Operate Data environments and data-streaming systemsRecognise and share opportunities to reuse existing data flows between teamsBeing proactive in evaluating and developing tools and technologies in improving the data analytics platformsArchitect and/or evaluate data analytics solutions, apply knowledge of systems integrationSupporting the development of data migration, data integration and data processing processesSupporting the creation of project plans, identification of risks, and generation of risk mitigation plansProvide mentoring and coaching

PROFILE

Required skills:

Experience of setting up and administering AWS or Azure data platforms and analytics servicesExperience of Power BI or Pentaho BAExperience of working in an agile software development environmentExperience estimating task effort and identifying dependenciesExcellent communication skillsFamiliarity with Python and its numerical, data and machine learning libraries

Desired skills:

Experience of configuring and using ETL platforms such as SSIS, AWS or Azure Data Factory

Experience of Hadoop and JenkinsAzure CertifiedAWS CertifiedFamiliarity with Java
