Job Details Aids in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease through lab testing. Performs test pursuant to established and approved protocols requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility. General Statement of Duties: Assist Supervisor and assume Supervisory duties as needed to oversee daily performance of all aspects of department testing. Assign workload to staff members, act as a resource to troubleshoot assay problems, troubleshoot customer (clinician/patient) calls, review Preventive Maintenance, Quality Control and assay performance Act as department trainer and assist methods development team when needed Applicant must possess the ability to access problems, promote a positive team spirit, communicate with clients, and work with the management to expand the General Laboratory Department scope of services. Technically able to aid in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease through lab testing Performs test pursuant to established and approved protocols requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility. TECHNICAL: Demonstrates expertise in all instruments, method, and Quality Control in the appropriate departments. Ensures timely and appropriate submission of Proficiency Testing results to Regulatory agencies Timely and appropriately evaluates/reviews results from Regulatory agencies. Recommends and implements benchmarks for departmental quality improvement initiatives (PI, Focus Studies, FTDs). Engages staff in quality initiatives improvements (staff buy-in and participation). Ensures timely completion of work and required TAT by the staff. Ensures and monitors a safe working environment through education and in servicing. Demonstrates the capability of interpreting and resolving arbitrary technical issues including questionable results and notifies upper management Timely reviews Quality Control and other Quality Assurance reports LEAD : Assure adequate staffing and scheduling Effectively communicates with Superiors, Peers and Subordinates. (Internally and Externally) Ensures effective inventory of supplies Participates in the interviewing and hiring processes. Demonstrates leadership and coaching skills through team building. Timely reviews and evaluates staff Performance Appraisals Ensures and documents staff competencies Provides access to continuing education and training tools as required. Assesses effectiveness of staff training. Monitors and evaluates productivity reports and follows up. Helps develop and implement departmental SOPMs with policies and procedures EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Biomedical Sciences consistent with NY State guidelines (NAACLS ACCREDITED, ASCP or NCA Eligible) Licenses: NYS Experience: 4 years hospital experience required, prior lead or supervisory experience preferred Salary Range USD $59.24 - USD $72.32 /Hr.
