Lead Banker China-Africa Corridor
Job Description

The purpose of the Lead Banker for the China-Africa corridor origination is to take accountability across event and Flow (for client) outcomes including P&L for specific clients and partner in the responsibility for solutions innovation, development, and implementation as part of their day-to-day activities.

A Lead Banker is accountable for originating both flow and event business within the China-Africa corridor but is primarily responsible for driving the growth in event business activity for a specific client and/ or client set assigned to them, preferably also have a dual responsibility for solutions innovation, development, and implementation as part of their day-to-day activities.

As part of this role, the Lead Banker will be required to travel to various African countries where the FirstRand group has branches and subsidiaries to originate China / Africa corridor business.Accountability for client origination, retention, and penetration across the bank’ solutions to drive financial performance.Bring “one RMB” to the client by bringing the whole bank and its offering to the client.Origination across multiple products, articulate and drive the client strategy budgets and have accountability for the management, growth, and profitability of clients allocated to them.They have direct responsibility and accountability of some top clients (strategic clients) and Chinese clients within the China portfolio, serving as the primary point of contact for the client’s C-Suite leaders (e.g., CEO/CFO) and actively driving client planning, engagement, and strategy.A key aspect of the role is the leadership responsibility for the transactors and specialists within the cross functional team, providing leadership, oversight, and driving performance of the specific client set.Develops and delivers on the client plan that aligns to the China-Africa Strategy.Create and lead a cross functional client team which includes relevant sector and product bankers working with the lead banker to drive desired client outcomes. The members of the cross-functional team co-sign the account plan with the lead banker and are held accountable for the execution of the client plan. Each member of the cross-functional team is responsible for originating ideas for their product domain, and the identification of ancillary product opportunities where relevant.Co-owns together with the Asia Head the overall commercial decisions related to the client across various solutions. The Lead banker will work closely with our China based teams.Plans to drive revenue growth and generate client leads within the allocated client set.Management of the origination process, anticipating client needs and ideation of innovative solutions to client’s emerging needs.Analyse information and reports to identify trends, discrepancies and inconsistencies for decision making purposes; systematically understand the China-Africa corridor and to provide thought leadership on developments within the client set allocated.Identify opportunities and spot future trends in sector developments that can improve the bank’s competitiveness.Develop tactical strategy and delivery plans in support of functional strategic objectives in partnership with leadership that contributes to generate revenue flows.Define and drive the tactical sales strategy for area of responsibility and Leads the Client Action Planning process for clients they are directly responsible for within the assigned China portfolio, across all their banking needs (across all business units).Establish and maintain relationships with product/ solution/regional partners to strengthen collaborative working relations to improve the effective and efficient execution of the Client Action Plan as part of a cross-functional team.Establish mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders that support thought leadership, innovative and integrated practice solutions.Apply a customer-centric approach that focuses on creating a positive experience for the customer by maximizing service and/or product offerings and building relationships and ensure that the customer is at the centre of the business philosophy, operations and ideas.Manage team or teams in areas of responsibility in delivery against performance targets and achievement of wider human capital objectives.Develop, encourage and nurture collaborative relationships across business areas and across the group.

Minimum Requirements:

8-10 years experience in a similar environment, of which 3-4 years directly working with the Management of Chinese Multinational Corporates
