Hourly base pay rate is $42.45 - $70.72/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Job Description

Cox Enterprises is hiring a Lead Aircraft/Avionics Technician to join our Aviation team! The Lead Aircraft/Avionics Technician will serve as the airframe, engine, and avionics subject matter expert for all aircraft in the Cox fleet as defined within 14 Code of Federal Regulations, Federal Aviation Administration Airworthiness Directives, Federal Communication Commission (FCC) and Manufacturer’s Service Bulletins.  In addition, the Lead Aircraft/Avionics Technician will assume ownership of any assigned aircraft and serve as an independent decision maker who possesses the authority for Flight Release and is responsible for the administration of the maintenance program for the designated aircraft to ensure that it is maintained to the highest quality standards in accordance with federal regulations, manufacturer’s approved methods, and industry best practices.  The Lead Aircraft/Avionics Technician will also act as a Flight Engineer for any assigned international trips and will be responsible for managing the aircraft when onboard.  This position reports directly to the assigned Technical Operations Manager.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Serve as airframe and avionics expert by maintaining a thorough working knowledge of all company aircraft to include advanced operating systems such as “Fly-by-Wire” flight controls, Heads-Up displays systems, Enhanced Vision Systems with infrared cameras, Digital Electronic Engine Controls and satellite communications.

Accomplish quality maintenance, repair, preventive maintenance, and inspections which conform with company standards and optimize the aircraft dispatch reliability & operational availability.

Manage and organize computerized maintenance program tasks on assigned aircraft to obtain the best workflow during an aircraft inspection.

Troubleshoots, tests, repairs, and installs avionics components such as aircraft communication, navigation, radar, electronic instrument systems and internet connectivity systems.

Responsible for tracking and installing the latest Satcom Direct and Gogo software updates for the fleet.

Collects and submits Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) data for analysis, review and diagnosis of avionics related problems.

Coordinates Cabin View/GCMS upgrades and adjustments to include uploading Cox logos and passenger briefing information.

Operates, maintains, and coordinates the repair of avionics test equipment and associated trade tools.

Responsible for aircraft software and data base loading/updates including:

Navigational Charts & Data Base

Flight Deck component loading\configuration

Terrain Data Base

Obstacle Data Base

EGPWS Data Base

Cabin Server software/firmware

Engine Trend downloads

Maintenance Computer downloads

Review computerized maintenance program requirements for assigned aircraft short and long-term maintenance projections. Provide projection reports to Director of Technical Operations at scheduled intervals or as needed.

Manage aircraft maintenance discrepancy logs in computerized maintenance program and sign off these discrepancies as they are completed.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

As an aircraft's systems expert, the flight engineer is responsible for checking the plane's major systems before the trip, monitoring them throughout the flight, and then performing a postflight inspection after reaching the destination.

Ensure all Minimum Equipment List (MEL) items are managed within time requirements.

Perform audits of Flight Logs and ensure all discrepancies are cleared prior to return to service.

Ensure the timely completion of Due Items for assigned aircraft.

Brief Technical Operations Managers daily, or as necessary, for all issues that may impact scheduled passenger operations.

Supervise GSE and vendor repair work as required. Placard inoperative Ground Support Equipment; advise Technical Operations Manager of scheduled repair timeframe.

Launch and recover flights as assigned through the ladder scheduling program or by the manager’s discretion to include nights and weekends.

Maintain spare part records and inventories.

Perform all other duties as required or assigned by the Technical Operations Manager.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED and 7 years’ Aviation experience. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline and 5 years’ experience in Aviation; or 9 years’ experience in Aviation.

FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Licenses.

Qualifications That Can Help A Candidate Standout

FAA Inspection Authorization (or ability to obtain at company expense after employment.)

Associate degree in a related discipline.

Business Aviation experience preferred.

Flight Safety Avionics Master Technician Endorsement or FCC GROL license.

NCATT – Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) endorsement.

Safety Management System (SMS) course endorsement

Strong business acumen and project management skills.
