LANIER ER CHARGE NURSE - LANIER ADMINISTRATION

EAMC MISSION

At East Alabama Medical Center, our mission is high quality, compassionate health care, and that statement guides everything we do. We set high standards for customer service, quality, and keeping costs under control. POSITION SUMMARY The ED charge nurse is responsible for assisting current staff with managing patient flow and helping care for patients being held in the emergency department, assisting with transfer requests to other facilities, and performing all duties related to mixing medications that cannot be stored in the RX station since we will no longer have house supervisors or full-time pharmacists. They will be the contact person for all staff members regarding callouts or late arrivals. They will be responsible for all patient complaints and work with security to resolve any issues. They will also be responsible for ordering stock and special order supplies. They will be the ones to collect supplies from the storeroom if the ED runs out of something after hours. They will take on all the responsibilities of a house supervisor and patient flow responsibilities in the ED. They will also be the ones who respond to any rapid response called in an outpatient area.  The ED charge nurse performs all ED RN duties as needed. The registered nurse is responsible for assessing, evaluating, and delegating the delivery of skilled patient care. The focus of assessment and intervention based on a presenting chief complaint and acuity is a specialized approach unique to the emergency nurse. ED nurses work in a stressful, fast-paced, time-constrained environment where they integrate evidence-based knowledge, make rapid assessments, make critical decisions, and perform life-saving interventions, all while using prioritization and multitasking. ED nurses require a skill set beyond that of a traditional nurse. This skill set is specific to our environment and includes the care of various patients. The ED nurse should be competent in caring for patients across the age continuum and requires a fluid and continuous process of education, skill refinement, knowledge procurement, and risk recognition. The ED nurse has continuous interaction with physicians, patients, family members, other care areas, and management. The ED nurse is held to the ANA code of ethics and accountable for improving patient care. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education Associates Degree from accredited School of Nursing
