Landscaping/Grounds Keeping Supervisor
Overview The Landscaping/Grounds Keeping Supervisor will be responsible for maintaining safe and attractive landscaping for a large facility U.S. Government Operations and Maintenance Program located in Iraq. The duties and responsibilities listed are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive. Responsibilities MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES: Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring safety is the highest priority in the workplace. Comply with all Environmental & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals.Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation. Design, layout and install beds, plants, hardscape and structures with consideration for water conservation and cost control. Work with other personnel in planning for construction of new buildings or other structures and modifications to existing structures to ensure minimal damage is done to existing landscaping. Knowledgeable of local plants available, materials (e.g., mulch, chemicals, rocks, organic fertilizers and soil amendments) and outdoor equipment and furniture available within country to minimize importation and transportation costs. Supervise a large team on multiple projects consisting of direct hires and subcontractors. Safe operation of landscaping equipment. Perform additional duties and projects as assigned. MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: Landscape equipment, small excavation equipment, hand tools, personal computer, printer, calculator, FAX machine, copy machine, and other general office equipment Windows Computer and associated software, cell phone, two-way radio, vehicle and other office equipment. all equipment of types that require maintenance or certifications pursuant to the OBO Maintenance Standards and/or applicable code or manufacture requirements, equipment which is operated through a sequence of operations, • electronic controllers, sensors, and network devices, agency owned sensors, if applicable WORKING ENVIRONMENT: This contract is performed in a contingency operations environment, in a harsh climate, and often hazardous situations. While performing the duties of this contract, the employee will regularly be exposed to an extreme and austere desert environment. Temperatures can reach 120 – 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50 – 55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform job requirements in this environment, as well as deploying to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are typically six (6) days per week and ten (10) hours per day. Employees may be performing physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors. All employees must be able to move quickly to cover during security alarms. This includes being able to lift, carry and/or wear forty (40) pounds of personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time and being capable of running during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk. All staff must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED Education/Certifications: A degree from an accredited school in Landscape Management, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture or similar field. Certification(s) in lieu of education may be considered. A Master Gardener certification from an accredited body may be accepted. NALP certification(s) may be accepted. NALP approval may require multiple certifications. Certifications from sources other than noted above may also be considered. Security Vetting: Must already possess a U.S. Government (USG) issued security clearance or Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) certification or be able obtain a favorable USG security clearance or MRPT certification prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required clearance or certification level for the duration of the task order. Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license from home of record. Language Skills: Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills. Citizenship: No specific requirement Experience: Ten (10) years’ experience in landscaping/grounds keeping of large residential, commercial, recreational or government properties. Five (5) years’ experience in managing subordinates, subcontractors and vendors in the field. Experience in scheduling a workforce. Skills: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience providing excellent customer service. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team. Ability to be innovative and be an agent for change. Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.
