Prepares plans, specifications, and cost estimates for parks and recreation facilities; coordinates design projects with private consultants; and supervises the construction and administration of projects. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment with occasional visits to outdoor sites. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff. This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason. Work Location 100 W Houston Street (City Tower), San Antonio, Texas 78205 Work Hours 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday Essential Job Functions + Prepares preliminary and final plans, specifications, and cost estimates for the design and layout of parks and related facilities. + Supervises the execution of plans using knowledge of landscape architectural practices and plants native to the areas. + Coordinates work performed by private consultants by transmitting instructions, receiving information, and defining and interpreting policies. + Coordinates and directs the work of draftsmen, surveyors, irrigation system designers, and clerical staff as related to assigned projects. + Originates and coordinates meetings with staff, consultants, and citizen organizations. + Keeps job records and costs; prepares working schedules; and performs project related administrative tasks. + Performs field and office studies relative to the further development of existing areas and the possible development of proposed areas, which includes occasionally lifting and carrying tools weighing up to 10 pounds. + Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job Requirements + Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. + One (1) year experience in the practice of Landscape Architecture related to parks and recreation facility design and construction, preferably in the public sector. + Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License. + Licensed to practice as a Registered Landscape Architect in the State of Texas. + OR Must obtain a license to practice in the State of Texas within one (1) year of employment. Preferred Qualifications + Licensed Landscape Architect in the State of Texas or ability to obtain reciprocity within six (6) months. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. + Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of structural and soil engineering principles and ability to use these for the design process of creative facilities for public use and safety. + Knowledge of natural and environmental characteristics of a site, to include soils, topography, drainage, and vegetation. + Knowledge of technical drafting, drawing, and graphic art. + Knowledge of local construction techniques, materials, and costs. + Knowledge of law and construction principles to properly execute a construction contract. + Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs. + Ability to communicate direction concisely and to supervise people. + Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. + Ability to present ideas and designs to individuals with no knowledge of design principles. + Ability to produce specifications, reports, and correspondence. + Ability to use technical equipment to produce drawings and documents. + Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
