Lamination Process Engineer
Chris-Craft is a premium boat manufacturer participating in the luxury goods industry looking for an experienced Lamination Process Engineer who wants to be part of a great team building a world-class product. The Lamination Process Engineer provides hands on support in lamination for new models and sustaining engineering/ improvement projects. This will include tracking new parts and engineering improvement though the process and creating and updating patterns and documentation. Additionally, supporting new and current employee training. This role will involve working in the lamination department as an extension of engineering. Key Responsibilities + Ensure reliable engineering and integration of boat systems to include but not limited to surface modeling, laminate and core design. + Development of new product ideas and systems in a form of 2D parts modeling + Able to place components/hardware and conduct system integration within 3D CAD models prior to physical execution + Create 2D drawings and documentation for use in manufacturing the product. + Develop pictorial work instructions for use in manufacturing the product. + Create CNC 2D part files in Sigmanest or other CNC nesting programs + Create CNC 2D parts files for Fabrics and roll goods + Perform laminate and core development + Work with suppliers on the development of new systems and components to ensure continuous improvement in the quality and value of our boats systems + Manage specifications, quotations, first article ordering and approval of new components and record data in the Critical Parts List + Provide accurate material and component specification for the sourcing of new and replacement components. + Ensure that new designs and components meet the cost, performance and functional requirements of new and enhancement boat programs + Apply existing standards and methods for vacuum infusion and closed molding part and laminate design + Generate, review and issue Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) with complete documentation + Resolve assigned Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to make employee driven improvements + Support manufacturing and customer service on issues resolution + Maintaining technical information in an organized and accessible way. + Utilize warranty data to identify issues related to mechanical systems for mitigation purposes. + Ensure compliance with all necessary industry, domestic and international government regulations. + Ensure that all materials used in the manufacture of finished products have been tested and approved for quality and reliability. + Self-starter, high energy individual who can work effectively without supervision. + Know and enforce company policies and procedures. + Must be willing to travel (minimum 10%). + Track new and revised composite parts from first articles though attainment of production rates. + Troubleshoot lamination quality issues and identify process improvement opportunities. + Support investigation and resolution of engineering with manufacturing floor issues. + Monitor build schedule changes and ensure interdepartmental communication. + Ensure timely and adequate completion of applicable phases of project. + Must interface well with other employees and departments throughout the organization. + Ability to work independently at offsite locations and solve problems that may arise. + Perform material testing and capture and communicate technical details and results. + Ensure that designs have been fully validated and that they meet necessary system specifications and performance requirements. Education + Bachelor Degree in (Mechanical Engineering, Composite Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, related discipline) required + Consideration will be given for candidates with significant work experience in lieu of education requirement Experience/Skills + 2-5 years’ boat lamination or relevant composite experience + Closed molding experience is desirable + 1-3 years in CAD drafting experience; Rhino, NX, Solid Works, Catia or Pro E required + 2-D modeling skills required + Able to perform hands on fabrication and validate concepts and ideas + Ability to use Epicor and perform BOM research + Complex problem solving ability + Commitment to quality and standards that are accepted by the industry + Must interface well with other employee’s and departments throughout Chris Craft as well as outside vendors, dealers and retail customers + Must be able to work extra hours required to assume timely completion of critical projects + Proficiency in PC based tools with a focus on Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, email and general web-based applications. + Must be willing to work in the manufacturing environment and be hands on to support manufacturing and prototype activities Chris-Craft offers a great culture as well as a suite of benefits along with competitive pay.
