St. Petersburg is our primary softgel development and manufacturing facility in North America with a capacity of 18 billion capsules per year.  The featured RP Scherer softgel technology is a proven oral drug delivery solution to enhance bioavailability of poorly soluble Rx and OTC drug candidates.  Non-gelatin based OptiShell® and Vegicaps® capsules expand the range of molecules into softgel, ideal for challenging fill formulation. Within the Catalent network, we offer a broad range of integrated formulation.

The Laboratory Technician, Quality Control performs physical measurement and minor testing activities for Raw Materials, pre-capsulation, Stability and Finished Products. The Laboratory Technician, QC will document results, maintain laboratory notebook according to cGMP and Internal guidelines. The Quality Control laboratory supports testing and release of raw materials, intermediate and finished products, and all critical systems supporting manufacturing operations such as purified and potable water, compressed gases, captive zone environmental analysis, as well as cleaning and process validation support. The department provides analytical services to manufacturing, Technical Services, Validation and new material qualifications. All activities are performed in accordance with specifications, standard operating procedures, approved test methods and/or protocols, regulatory requirements, and St. Petersburg’s Quality departmental policies.

Work Hours: Must be available to start between 4:00 and 4:30 AM, with 8-hour shifts from Wednesday through Sunday.

The Role

Performs analysis of finished products, validation samples, in-process materials and raw materials, moisture testing, Compress Gas, Water and manufacturing environmental sampling and testing according to the effective protocols, Methods and Compendial monograms and proprietary and customer supplied methods.

Prepares reagents, standards, media, etc. needed for analysis & samples of the facility’s water systems as per SOP.

Responsible for login of samples (routine and non-routine) into LIMS database and logbooks.

Interprets and tabulates results of analysis. Records the results in approved notebooks, reports and logbooks.

Help receive, label and store receipts of solvents and other analytical reagents.

Required to work shifts in support of the manufacturing process that may include weekends and holidays.

The work hours may change depending on departmental needs.

May be required to work with potent and teratogenic compounds.

Must be able to work day or night shift including weekends and holidays.  The work hours may change depending on department needs.

The Candidate

Requires High School education, and preferably with some college course work in related sciences. 

Prefer prior experience in an analytical laboratory preferred.

Must possess good interpersonal skills. 

Good organizational skills required Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.  

Vision requirements include ability to differentiate color (Pass the Ishihara Color Vision Screening) and obtain 20/30 acuity in both far and near vision with or without corrective lenses. For Catalent’s in-house screening, the acceptable score is to identify at least 4 of 6 numbers in the circles.

Individuals required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch regularly and lift to 40 pounds; no lifting greater than 44.09 pounds without assistance.
