Laboratory Supervisor – Microbiology Lab

 

 

As a Supervisor, your responsibilities are:

 

This position is responsible for the full Supervisory and related administrative responsibility of the environmental Microbiology department. Accountabilities and essential deliverables include but are not limited to the following:

 

Lead and develop staff - setting objectives, evaluating performance & expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided. Maximize the effectiveness of human, equipment and financial resources and ensure that they are used appropriately. Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Code of Ethics, Quality System, SOP’s, Health & Safety program and external accreditation requirements. Prioritize daily workload based on sample and client requirements. Facilitate the production of high quality defensible data, safely and on time. Ensure methods in use meet current and proposed regulatory guidelines. Act as technical resource for Manager, Customer Service and staff. Elevate significant & complex resource issues to Manager. Provide technical expertise to staff with respect to day-to-day operations. Develop, modify and update Standard Operating Procedures. Participate, when requested in internal and external audits. Suggest, develop and implement new processes and procedures to ensure continuous improvement in productivity and job efficiency. Organize and direct staff, maintaining good, safe and clean working environment. Contribute to positive team environment and provide ongoing feedback to the Manager.

 

You are an ideal Supervisor, if you have [Minimum Requirements]:

B.Sc., technical diploma or equivalent experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience in laboratory environment of which 2 years are at a leadership level. Basic knowledge of environmental Microbiology and provincial regulation. Energetic and motivated personality that can work independently and with a team in a multi-tasking fast paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent time-management and priority setting skills Demonstrated team building, training and coaching skills Able to assess problems, troubleshoot, recommend and implement solutions. Uses good judgement, trains and assists in resolution of employee relations issues. Experience directing workflow is essential. Should have the ability to identify the organizational needs and to conceptualize, initiate, coordinate and manage the implementation of solutions. Ability to quickly adapt to a changing environment and priorities and balancing the workload to meet new constrains. Knowledge of laboratory practices, techniques and equipment common to the field would be an asset. Detail oriented with good record keeping skills Proficient with MS Office, LIMS experience is an asset May handle biohazardous materials following established safety procedures and using appropriate equipment. Flexible working hours and ability to lift 40lbs.

 

Work Schedule: 12:00 pm to 8:30pm, Tuesday to Saturday

(Candidate is expected to oversee the weekend shift)
