Laboratory Supervisor

Conemaugh Miners Medical Center is seeking a full-time Laboratory Supervisor for their Laboratory department in Hastings, PA. The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operation and technical aspects of the lab by planning, organizing, and facilitating the daily activities of the personnel assigned to their specific section. Age specific needs of our patients are considered and met in the above activities (from the neonate to geriatric patients).

Leadership Responsibilities:
Responsible, either personally or through delegation, for the following:

Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care/service.

Continuously assesses and improves the performance of care and services provided.

Maintains quality control programs, as appropriate.

Orients and provides in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the department/service.

Recommends space and other resources needed by the department/service. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Participate to some degree in each of the following responsibilities:

Provides for training of employees.

Evaluates - Independently evaluates and determines work assignments and evaluates job performance, recognizes performances.

Assigns and Directs - Work Grants overtime; assigns & schedules.

Exercises Supervisory Authority - Implements department and/or hospital policy; insures all employees are trained in policy; exercises discretion, independent of policy to insure proper function of department or sub department.

Essential Responsibilities:

Maintains professional skills and provides appropriate care to patients of all ages (neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics).

Maintains personal competency on all equipment and procedures and assures competencies of employees in assigned section are up-to-date and complete according to Laboratory Competency Policy.

Assists with the daily work schedules to assure maximum production from assigned employees and evaluates daily workflow and makes adjustments in staffing as necessary.

Completes and approves proper documentation of employees’ hours / time in Kronos.

Assures the quality control procedures, instrument/equipment evaluation, and maintenance are carried out on schedule and properly documented in section as required by accrediting agencies.

Ensures all QC, QA, PT, and calibrations are performed accurately and within specified time frames to assure all test results are valid prior to reporting.

Collaborates with the Laboratory Manager on all policy and procedure issues and immediately notifies Manager of any issues regarding employees, procedures, or equipment.

Troubleshoots instrument, equipment, or PC failure and facilitates resolution of problem.

Maintains all documentation requirements of accrediting agencies.

Facilities training of new employees in accordance with Laboratory Practice.

Facilitates evaluation of new or modified test procedures or equipment, as directed by Manager.

Writes or reviews procedures as directed by section Manager.

Takes care of inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies.

Job Qualifications:
Education:
Required: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or chemical, physical, or biological science and graduate of an NAACLS approved laboratory training program as applicable to the position. May also qualify under route 2, 3 or 4 of the ACSP Board of Certification.

Preferred: N/A.

Experience:
Required: 5 years’ experience as a Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (ACSP) cm in a clinical Laboratory setting.

Preferred: 2 years’ experience in related laboratory section.

Certification/Licensure/Registration:
Required: Must be registered as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. BLS/CPR within 6 months of employment

Preferred: Categorical or Specialty in area of expertise is preferred. 

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to meet patient age-specific needs (neonate to geriatric patients) as they apply to the Laboratory.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to problem solve.

Ability to perform multiple tasks and yet meet deadlines.
