LABORATORY/PATHOLOGY BILLING SPECIALIST

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Laboratory/Pathology Billing Specialist to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Checks daily revenue cycle queue to ensure correct patient charges. Pull CPT report from Novopath to add charges to Cerner. Monitor reference laboratory charges that include, but not limited to: Yellowstone Pathology, Quest, Mayo Clinic, Pathology Associates and any other referencing laboratory as the lab needs change. Follow up on needs for authorizations and insurance denials as business office and billing office need assistance, additional diagnosis codes, etc.Is the lab point of contact for pathology billing related questions. Responds to requests for patient pricing as needed. Maintains client billing reports and sends to their respective facilities. Maintains records for MVH auditing as they see fit and pulls documents as needed. Other billing duties as deemed necessary and needs arise.

 

Order, collecting, process routine and specialty testing, and returning results back to provider. Obtain and process provider’s orders, and data entry. Provide excellent customer service on the phone, to patients, to providers and to other medical staff. Work well under pressure. Follow hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering of samples to laboratory.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

1. Pull and review daily Novopath billing report to add patient charges to Cerner in a timely manner.
2. Keep revenue cycle hold queues to a minimum amount by staying current with adding charges.
3. Monitor daily paperwork from Pathology administrative assistants for charges needing to be added for Pathologist services, PAP’s, over reads etc.
4. Monitor reference laboratory charges that include, but not limited to: Yellowstone Pathology, Quest, Mayo Clinic, Pathology Associates and any other referencing laboratory as the lab needs change.
5. Follow up on needs for authorizations and insurance denials as business office and billing office need assistance, additional diagnosis codes, outdated orders, etc.,.
6. Lab point of contact for pathology billing related questions. Responds to requests for patient pricing as needed and works with patient financial regarding different insurance coverage if patient is not private pay.
7. Monitors and maintains client billing report throughout the month as needed to keep pricing updated and watch for inconsistencies that need corrected. Sends final bill to respective facilities each month.
8. Maintains records for MVH auditing department as they see fit and pulls documents as needed for the charge capture process.
9. Ensure that patients receive appropriate competent and quality clinical care and that customer service meets patient’s expectation.
10. Maintain, develop and utilize professional relationships with a wide range of a. Organizations and specialists including coworkers and other departments b. Maintain effective working relationships between nursing, clerical, medical and
allied health staff.
11. Organize requisitions received for collection. Maintain records of tests performed. Scan orders and lab results into electronic medical record system, print and fax lab reports to ordering provider.
12. Orients and mentors new staff members as needed by management.
13. Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
14. Other duties as deemed necessary
