The Lab Co-op is a 6-8 month position based out of our Innovation Center right outside of Pittsburgh. It's a great opportunity to get experience working in our lab environment.
Main Responsibilities:
Ability to work on assigned projects with limited supervision while performing sampling, preparing and testing lime/limestone, raw materials and associated products.
Be willing to learn and use analytical instruments.
Ensure housekeeping is maintained in the lab and sample preparations areas while following good lab practices, safety procedures and other duties as assigned by management.
Ensure regulatory requirements are met with regards to chemical disposal, proper PPE when handling chemicals.
Ability to perform and construct scientific experiments safely.
Requirements:
Must be enrolled full-time in college or university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences (e.g. Chemistry, physics, etc.) or Engineering or related fields.
Must have a valid driver’s license and have transportation to and from office.
Ability to work safely and with minimal supervision.
Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work (up to 50 pounds).
Ability to work outside in a hot, dusty, noisy environment.
Ability to wear the required personal protective equipment such as a dust mask or respirator
Must be able to read, write and understand both verbal and written instructions in English, as well as some computer knowledge.
Strong math and organizational skills along with ability to meet deadlines; ability to read and interpret technical procedures.
Excellent work ethic, interpersonal skills & communication skills.
Manufacturing and equipment experience is an asset.
Some travel may be required. This includes picking up lab samples, performing customer trials and visiting operations. Minimum 5% travel, but no more than 10%.
Must be punctual and able to meet deadlines.
Can accurately write technical reports based on laboratory findings.

Possess strong analytical thinking skills to provide a logical, in-depth analysis of a problem or situation.
Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously with an emphasis on being results oriented
Can transition between various lab settings depending on the incoming projects.
