Responsibilities:
Receives and accessions specimens into the LISConducts higher level accessioning in the LIS including esoteric testingConducts advanced tracking investigationsServes as a subspecialty client liaisonResponsible for advanced problem solving/issue resolution (pending log/SERS/block QA)The following duties are specific to Anatomic Pathology:Performs tasks involved with creating slides and/or cell blocksPerforms frozen section processing (frozen section slide creation)Creates cell block slidesClinical histology tissue embeddingAssists in cytology adequacy assessmentsPrepares specimens for analysisPerforms manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance)Runs and resolves LIS logsRetrieves, sorts, tracks and delivers specimens.Performs logistic activities within and outside of labUses tracking software/devicesComplies with safety, SOP & regulationsPerforms problem solving functionsMaintains appropriate documentation.Performs basic clerical functions.Communicates and documents essential information.Maintains equipment and places work orders.Other duties as assigned.Education:
Associate’s degree required preferably in Science.Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics or medical laboratory science preferred.Four years of lab technician or comparable processing experience may substitute the Associate degree requirement.Active enrollment in the Cleveland Clinic MLS program may substitute the two year experience requirement and the Associate degree requirement.
