Covia is looking for a dynamic Temporary Full time NSO Lab Technician who will have a positive impact on the Operations team the Nepheline Syenite Operation located at the Blue Mountain facility. This position is to cover a maternity leave. It is a 12-month position with possibility of extension to 18-months.

 Lab Technician is responsible for administering the quality control program and supervise hourly Blue Mountain and Nephton Personnel. Lab Technician will perform analytical tests accurately providing analytical data for quality control/quality assurance. They will track customer shipment data and generate certificate of analysis for shipment. The Lab Technician will organize sample collection and analyses for experimental work, for new processes, products and procedures.

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:

 

Provide Safety Leadership through regular safety inspections of Lab facilities. Assist with Plant and Quarry safety inspections when called upon. Observe and reinforce safe work behaviors and participate in monthly safety meetings. Promote and act to support a high level of site housekeeping, ergonomic initiatives, reduced employee dust exposure and Hear Hit reporting among others. Ensure timely investigation and reporting on all department related safety incidents. Ensure compliance with report recommendations to prevent further occurrences. Must be thoroughly familiar with Quality Control inspection and analytical procedure manual Perform analytical tests for Quality Control of production and shipments. Perform necessary tests to ensure quarry, production and shipment quality control Perform chemical analyses on quarry samples; and on production grade products to ensure quality is within customer specifications Perform chemical analyses on load-out samples for quality assurance checks Maintain analytical accuracy for balances, sieves, XRF and particle size analyzers for the Nepheline Syenite Operation. Transfer necessary data and samples to the Utica Corporate Lab Maintain quality documentation for S.P.C. purposes Prepare and issue customer's shipping/certificate of analysis reports for the Nepheline Syenite Operation. Supervision of the laboratory Coordinates production control and produce quality control with the Quarry and Plant Supervisors. Advise Quarry/and Plant Supervisors of quality problems and recommend corrective action. Performs periodic quality testing as arises Preparing and analyzing drill samples, sample to include blast holes, test holes and diamond drill core. Complete standard checks and calibrations as specified in the QC manual Data entry including raw data and generating COA’s, specification requests and other documentation as required. Running daily analysis on production and loadout samples as required, including heavies, colours, hegmans, chemistries and other testing as required. Preparing paperwork for production and quarry group, including daily results, pit blends, shot maps and other documentation as required Perform any other duties as required to contribute to the continuous improvement of the Nepheline Syenite Operations.

The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of a post-secondary program in laboratory sciences or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred. 3 - 5 years’ experience as a laboratory technician. 1 - 2 years specific in a mineral processing laboratory
